The Scottish Government has announced that legislation has been passed to introduce a new visitor levy across the country.
Supporting tourism, the levy will empower local authorities to invest in their tourism offerings, with it raise funding for visitor facilities and services. The Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill will allow local authorities to put a levy on overnight stays within their area, with the money raised then being reinvested into the services and facilities that are frequently used by tourists and business visitors.
Levies such as this are already in place in destinations around the world, including Amsterdam, Berlin, and Canada.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has confirmed the further details of the areas that are to benefit from Levelling Up Partnership funding.
Across Boston, Stoke-on-Trent, Wakefield, the Scottish Borders, Tendring, investment will be allocated to regeneration projects that will support the government’s levelling up plans. Approximately £60 million will be committed by the government, covering everything from culture and the arts, to transport and housing.

Tees Valley Combined Authority has announced that it has been shortlisted to be the location for a new factory that will drive employment and investment.
The region is one of four to be shortlisted by the energy firm responsible for the factory, with the others being the West Midlands, Cumbria, and South Yorkshire, with 14 original candidates.
Small nuclear reactors will be constructed in the factory, with the Small Modular Reactors being deployed in the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. This process will ensure that successful location will benefit from £1.3 billion of investment, as well as £1.5 billion being added to the local economy over the course of 15 years. The project will also see the creation of 3,600 jobs with a further 400 manufacturing jobs being created once the site is up and running.
