Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

It is God who supplies the daily needs of all His creatures. In the
beautiful words of the psalmist – “The eyes of all wait upon Thee; and
Thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest Thine hand,
and satisfiest the desire of every living thing” (Psalm 145:15,16) –

It was a frigid, winter morning, and the heavens above Berlin
were grey and smoky. Crows fluttered above the skyscrapers, making
the city look ghostly. I was in the middle of Berlin, amidst preoccupied
people who were going to work or school. They were spellbound with
their smart phones and headsets. All were in such a rush that they
barely took notice of the hurting world around them. I dashed down to
catch the subway and almost fell over the feet of a sleeping hobo.
After a couple setbacks (including boarding the wrong train),
I finally reached my destination: Berlin-Moabit, one of the shabby
districts in Berlin. I walked up the stairs and breathed the infamous
Berlin air; the mixed aroma of exhaust gases from cars and the sewer
system wafted around me. I could already see my destination in sight.
It was the LAGESO (State Department for Health and Social Affairs):
the receiving office for refugees fleeing from persecution in their
countries. In front of the building was a long row of people waiting to
talk to the officials. Most of the refugees were freezing in the bitter
cold. Many slept outside under bridges or on the bare ground. Some
kids came without their parents. That day, my friends and I distributed
food, clothing, and missionary pamphlets among the suffering
refugees.
I had the privilege that day to serve my fellow brothers and
sisters in their physical and spiritual needs just as Jesus did. In
the same way, we can all begin reaching out to the people in our
neighborhood and then spread out to the world.
