Welcome to Sala Talks — a storytelling podcast exploring identity, ambition, healing, faith and creative becoming through a first-generation immigrant lens. Hosted by Dr. Kat Besas, a Filipina-American Doctor of Nursing Practice, speaker, storyteller, and creative exploring what it means to build a life beyond survival. Through vulnerable solo episodes and heartfelt conversations, we unpack bicultural identity, mental health, therapy, family dynamics, creativity, purpose, and personal growth. In many Filipino homes, the Sala is the living room — a space where stories are shared and people gather in community. You belong here. Welcome to the Sala.

As a woman of color and a daughter of Filipino immigrants, I spent most of my life trying to prove that I was enough. Smart enough, capable enough, and worthy enough to belong. My name is Kat, and this season of my life is no longer about proving. It's about creating from a place of purpose for impact and reconnecting with the parts of myself that I once buried to belong. God told me I needed my own mic, and I'm just following to see where the light takes me.
