# The Good Wife S5E1
[00:00:00]
Welcome to The Good Pod, where today we're talking The Good Wife. Season five, episode one, everything is ending. I'm one of your hosts, Jason Reed. With me as always, it's Marissa. Marissa. Marissa. Marissa, how are you? Yeah, I'm good. Good. Jason, are you good? I'm good. I'm good. Good. Uh, good. So yeah, I just, oh, who's this other early girl?
Of course, Marissa. Well, it's, it's Mar, it's Marissa. It's the other Marissa, the intern. We've had this whole time that we just are just now calling attention to. She's been, she's been here the whole time. She's a, she's a, a third year intern that's been here with us this whole time. Oh, it's regular Marissa.
She doesn't wanna come say hi. Sorry. But you know, she's been here the whole time. You just didn't know she was here. I'll have to, uh, call on Marissa for some help in the post-production. That would be great. What's that? What's that, Marissa? She says, uh, she says she doesn't have those skills so she can Oh boy.
She can't help you. Sorry. [00:01:00] Oh boy. She's pretty much just like gets my beverages, like refills my water box. Gosh, season. Um, so I mean, that's just, it's not like we pay her. So, um, yeah, so we are here season five, episode one. We're into season five. Guys. Like, I, I didn't even, like, I didn't even know if we were gonna get to season five when we first started this thing.
I was like, oh, it's gonna be fun, but, you know, hopefully it goes a long time. We're in season five, season five. Season five. Yeah. And unfortunately, it's also the death of the naming Init of The Good Wife, where before the season, every episode of Seasons, season one had one word, episode Season two had two word episodes, so on and so forth.
Until we get to season five for that, there's like, we just can't come up with five word titles for every episode. We just can't do it guys. We just gotta end it. Gotta end it. Yeah. I think that was pointed out to us by listener early in our. Podcasting of the show because I was like, oh yeah, it's one word.
They're like, yeah, it only lasts to season five. So we have made it to [00:02:00] season five. And first of all, thank you for all your support and helping us get here. Um, secondly, like, we're in it now, Jason. Like we gotta, we gotta through, we gotta finish this thing out. We're so close to the finish line at this point.
Three whole seasons left, and then I don't, I, I don't remember how many seasons of the Good fight, which are short, shorter seasons. Yes. So listen, we're we're closer to the end than we were, than we're at the beginning, so we're gonna stick it through. We're here for the long haul. Uh, we're here in season five where things are, uh, changing, characters are being introduced that they want us to believe have been here the whole time.
Um, you know, so we are here on this journey and I'm excited to keep going and see what Season five has to offer. Uh, it's great things and it's really, really awful things, which for those that don't know, you will see. Um. Marissa, well, before we get started, let's, uh, let's remind the good folks out there that they can support this podcast in a number of ways.
They can do that by rating, reviewing, subscribing. I'm still looking for that Apple Podcast review. I'm looking for that written review. Still hasn't happened yet. Still [00:03:00] waiting for it. Come on guys. Bring it on. We're stuck at 44. Let's go. Hey, friends, tell your friends, like tell your friends. Yeah. Steal your friends.
If you already left the review, steal your significant other's phone. Steal your kid's phone, steal your friend's phone, leave us a new review, whatever. Uh, but yeah, you can do that by reviewing, raise, subscribing where you're watching and or listening. You can also, you know, if you wanna just talk to us about the show.
If you have questions, you have comments, you wanna say something about what we said, you can always email us at the good pod feedback@gmail.com. And if you wanna help out this fledgling podcast, uh, small business podcast, you can do that by going to buy me a coffee.com/good pod and donating any sum you wish.
It all helps us in the production of this show. It may someday help us pay. Uh, one s Marissa. Oh no, maybe we'll see. Uh, but this is valuable, you know, experience for her. So I think she's gonna be okay. Uh, with all that, all the way. Marissa, let's get into the episode. We, we left off on a cliffhanger all season four with [00:04:00] thankfully we did not have to wait three months to get the resolved.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We pick up right where we left off the door opening, seeing Carrie, and we get the, I'm in from Alicia, and then Carrie walks in. They're having all this chatter back and forth. We, we learn who they're bringing. Don't remember any of their names. Don't even think we were really like around very much.
He, he does say, he does say Carrie. He does say, he does say Carrie. He does say Carrie, um, and. And Alicia's like, good. They're all good. Kalinda. What about Kalinda? Carrie's like, no. It's like, why, why not? Which I think is funny given the backstory of what we know. But, um, she, he says is money, it's too much during this.
Now remember this is right after the campaign, like the election night celebration, that she left Peter at his victory party to go meet with Terry. Yes. And she had told Will that day, like, we're gonna [00:05:00] talk after this because they're in a moment. They had their moment in the car, all of this stuff. Um, she left.
When she basically was announced as First Lady of the state of Illinois leaves and will calls during this conversation. And she doesn't take any hesitation to mute and de like, um, denying that call. Yeah, it's like we were talking about last episode. I think Alicia is just like, I cannot be around Will, I can't talk to Will, I can't like, let him be a part of my thoughts all the time.
Because remember they said after this night we're gonna talk, we are gonna have the talk, the talk. So Will's calling for the talk and least she's like, I can have the talk. I can't do that. Like, 'cause it's, it's done. I've made my decision, I made this decision to cut ties with Will and, you know, and to get him outta my life.
So I can't have the talk right now. And she's so like, concentrated on [00:06:00] avoiding everything that when Carrie says, congratulations on being First Lady, she's like, oh. I forgot. Oh yeah, that's that little thing, huh? Crazy. Forgot about that. And then the screen goes black and we are transported, unfortunately to an execution.
Well, we do, we do get a smaller thing. Before, before in this same con, in the same conversation, Carrie, were having, he's like, how are we gonna tell him? How are we gonna tell her? Diane will like, and you know, Alicia's worried about it and carrie's like, ah, will, you know, will and Diane were, had the same thing.
It's a circle of life, right? Like we, we just, we're just doing something new. They did the same thing when they went to then when they got to Lockhart Garden, so we'll be fine. And they talk about office space and he's like, you don't take the Sweeney offer. Oh yeah. And she's like, Nope. It's like, that is one of the fringe benefits of doing this.
I get to get rid of Colin Sweeney if I so choose. Yes, that is true. Oh man. So back in death row, we get transported to an [00:07:00] execution viewing room. Um, again, reminder at the state of Illinois. It does not do executions, but the state of Indiana does. So that's where a lot of this is coming from. But we are here and we're in a dark room.
First it's dark. Then like we see that we're in the small room, and Alicia again is like mesmerized by a man's neck. Like she's just like really into necks and really thinking that it's Will's neck all of the time. You don't, you don't know Marissa. She could just be really entrenched in barber culture and she's not like, that's a really nice taper on the back of that neck.
She might just be en like, like, you know, admiring the taper on on this man's neck. Uh, we get some more clues as to why we're here. Diane's sitting next to Alicia, we learned that they've been there for over two plus hours, so it's taking a long time to prepare for the execution. Then there's a very blatant turn by a woman in the front row, [00:08:00] and we learn that that is the mother of one of the victims.
The window blinds finally open. It's very kind of discombobulated. Um, the warden is talking without the microphone. You know, people are kind of just like moving it forward a little bit quickly. Um, when given the microphone, the man who is being put up for execution, who we learned his name, LA later, is Eddie Fordham.
Uh, he, he says he thanks his, his lawyers and asks them to go visit his mom. He's giving all this saying like, I'm so sorry that this happened, but I didn't do it. And as he does this, one of my worst fears in any medical situation happens and the IV pop. I hate it. I was like, oh, the spring's a leak. No thank you.
No thank you. No thank you. Immediately blinds go down. Diane is out of her seat. She's like, this is wrong. Like I need to speak with the warden. The warden then says, we've been having a hard time finding a vein, and she's like, for two [00:09:00] plus hours. Like this is, this is torture. This is an eighth amendment violation.
And the warden says, that's not for you to decide. And Lee's just like, you're right, it's the courts. So we're gonna go to court and delay this until you can do this in a humane way. Did you recognize the warden from our other death row episode? Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. This guy's back like, I wonder if we're gonna start, start getting recurring death row episodes every season or every, every other season or something.
Uh, but yeah. And, uh, important to note, Eddie Allen Fordham played by Malik Yoba, uh, very like, uh, prevalent Black Star. And interestingly enough, uh, with the timing of when this episode has gonna drop for us, uh, at the, at the conclusion of the Winter Olympics, Malik Yoba really broke out, uh, as starring in Cool Runnings, uh, about the Jamaican BSA team.
Funnily enough, I just recently watched Cool Runnings for a different podcast, uh, and it just really brought back great memories. Uh, feel the rhyme theater rhythm, feel the rhyme something, something is [00:10:00] bot that time jump on in or something like that. Yeah. Jump on. Yeah, something like that. Uh, so Maio, but also, uh.
Really well known for New York Undercover back in the nineties. Uh, started a show that I really enjoyed. Uh, back in the day, alphas about like a bunch of superpowered people really enjoyed that show. If there's ever something you're to check it out. It wasn't really like, it was a really not well-known show, but done really well.
I think it was like even like the sci-fi network, so it wasn't like, it wasn't really prominent, but I really love that show. Malik Yba is a really great, uh, one of, one of our better, like black actors. He's been a lot of black, he's been a lot of black things, let's just say that. Um, so yeah, I, I was, uh, happy to see him here.
He does a great job. This is, it's a tough like. Yeah. And, and and his moment he had on on the execution thing was like really great. Like when he was, you know, telling him, sorry, tell my mother I'm sorry that I was disappointed. My son apologize to, he apologizes to the victim's families, but he is like, but I ain't do this.
Like, it's like, I am so sorry this happened, but it wasn't me Uhhuh, [00:11:00] it wasn't me. It wasn't me. So we see counter and you can't, you can't these things out. It wasn't me. Wouldn't that be, I mean, that would not be appropriate when a man is trying to Yeah, someone just starts rapping. Like, it wasn't me that kind like, sir, sir, this is not the time.
Or place or like someone's re tone goes off. Do, do, do. Like, I, I understand the, the compulsion, but this is not a time nor place. I was thinking in my mind, but you didn't need to say it out loud. Exactly, exactly. So we walk back in Alicia's walking in, she's got boxes of ring hands. She's going to the, into the, uh, Lockhart Garden offices.
And we had heard last season that there were gonna be some staff changes because, to the assistants, because they wanted to stay home and so they were gonna teleconference. I have teleconferenced many a time in my life, Jason, but never, never in my life have I [00:12:00] been an iPad on a rolling machine as we see here at Lock Garden, which makes for some great comedy throughout this episode.
I mean, as simple as a psych gag is, it really brings a lot of chuckles, like as she's like trying to get around the office, crashing into doors, glitching constantly. I was like that, that, that was really well done. I really enjoyed that little, that little gag. It was good. It was good. The team is getting briefed up on the case.
We learn that we, this is the first time we learn about Eddie. Fordham, like his name, the whole story, all of it. And it's told to us by Robin of all people, which is still like, I'm not known, but it's still weird that it's not Kalinda because we can have Kalinda and Alicia in the same room. Mm-hmm. So she tells us that any for was arrested in 1999 for killing two teenagers, two teenage girls outside of a movie theater.
Um, the thing that really kind of clinched this decision in the court was the results of a hair test. And Diane's on the [00:13:00] phone, she's saying, this is what we wanna focus on. We don't think that the hair was his, there was a snitch involved. Robin picks up that dyed six years ago, but that sticks in her mind for a while.
So Will says, we're gonna break into teams. Blah, blah, blah. I forget who's assigned to what. Um, but okay, break basically after that. And then he says, Carrie, hold on. And there's new Carrie who's like, who me? And then Will was like, no, Carrie, Carrie, no real Carrie, better Carrie. Which is like, which is like I, if I'm carry, I'm like, ex, excuse me.
Uh, I am a real carry. This, this is saying like, you're the, you're the invalid carry. I, I want the, I want the carry. I like, you're the carry. I don't like, and so this is interesting, right? Because we find out that this carry is part of the fourth year uprising. So it's just like. Now I, I know good and damn well they did not do this.
They did not set this up the right way and have this actor in those scenes from last season when all the fourth years getting together, like [00:14:00] the, we've never, yeah, we've never seen this guy before. I was like, good, good try guys. Trying to slip in a new character on me that I'm supposed to believe has been here the whole time.
Definitely has not been, uh, knew Carrie played by Ben Rappaport. Mm-hmm. Uh, I knew Ben Rappaport from outsourced. I don't know if you ever watched that, that show? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. He was like the main guy about a, about a American that gets transferred over to India to lead a call center.
Uh, really good, really good. Um, little sitcom. I enjoyed it for the little time it was on also for the people, which I think was like, uh, part of like, you know, they were like people fighting for innocence project type things, uh, as a, as a kind of a dramedy. On Fox? Probably. Yeah. I, I like this guy. I, I did not remember that.
Outsource was actually before the Good Wife. I could have sworn, outsource was like, like after Good wife. Like, not even like I would've said seven years ago outsource came on. But apparently it was before The Good Wife. I was like, that's surprising. But yeah, [00:15:00] Ben, Ben Rappaport is here as new Carrie and New Carrie's gonna be new.
Carrie's gonna stick around. New Carrie's gonna be here for for a minute and on the Good wife. So he's gonna be part of this new firm, uh, you know, forming or whatever. Are we gonna call him? I think we'll just call him New. Carrie? New? Yeah, new Carrie's good. I think New Carrie. And then Carrie's just always gonna be Carrie 'cause he's Carrie Carey can call him.
Maybe we should call him E 'cause he's Carrie with E. E. What's up E? Nah, new carrie's good. We'll we'll go. What's up with New Carrie? So Will's on the phone with Diane. He is like, okay, well I'm gonna get Carrie and Alicia to you by you some more time. And Diane's like, how you gonna do that? He is like, I have no idea.
I. Uh, Diane is at the courthouse and Kalinda tells her that the hair was tested like more than once. And she's like, yeah, I know. Like Indi in Indiana for like the death row party. She's like, no, no, no. Here in Chicago, someone thought there was something up with a hair test. So this is kind of like a, a little bell.
We'll use this, Carrie's connections through his, [00:16:00] through Carrie's dad to call Barry Schnick, who is in front of the federal court here in Chicago, um, on a class action suit for like, um, lethal injection cases and whether it's part of the eighth Amendment, which is torture. I cannot remember Barry Schnick.
He, we have seen him before. I, have we seen him or did we just hear his name? Mentioned Maybe. And is he a real person? He's a real person. That's, I can't believe believe he was the head of the Innocence Project. Innocence Project. Yeah, exactly. Okay. So he is, he is playing himself here. He's a he is a real, uh, real live person.
Uh, so that, that was fun. Like, you know. I was surprised Carrie has this connection still based on the dealings with his father recently that we saw last season. Well, but I mean also Carrie was in the Peace Corps and he, I think he, yeah, it was like a connect where he was gonna go work for him at some point.
So yeah. Maybe he also just had his phone number anyway. Yeah, he just had his number anyway, so own ground to stand on. Um, so he calls and he is like, Hey, can we get [00:17:00] in, like on the, on the class action or we, we wanna be part of the class action, but not really part of the class action. Not like in it, but adjacent to it.
It varies. Like o Okay. Um, we'll see what we could do. So Alicia is walking through the halls at Lockhart Gardner at this point and is getting all of these comments like, so great to hear. You're coming with us. Can I, can I tell, can I tell our clients, Carrie, new Carrie? No, nude Carrie. No, that's a bad idea.
Don't do it. It's like, bruh, keep it down. Like this is supposed to be on the dl. The people are like, oh my God, I'm so happy you're coming with it. Like. And we have seen, uh, David Lee with his Bluetooth connector in before, but they made real sure that this was never in his office. Yeah. At any time. So while this is like going on and we see like a group of fourth years in a conference room celebrating David Sling, they're too, they're too happy.
Why are they so happy? They [00:18:00] can't be happy. I'm the only one that could be happy. So he gets Kalinda to basically get the phone records of these fourth years. 'cause he, he sets it all up. He's like, I think they're leaving. And she's like, how do you know he's, I'm psychic in a very David leeway. Like, bro, who are you?
ELs Beth, you just got like the sixth sense. You can just tell stuff happening. And he makes this, uh, I really think the show really, I. Made me not so great of a boss, but maybe also a great boss. I don't know because I took this whole like company cell phones thing, like so serious. I would never put anything work on my personal phone and I would never put anything personal on my work phone because I was like, this is gonna happen.
Someone's gonna come take it, this is how it's gonna be. And I would like tell my, um, direct reports. I was working with direct reports about it and they'd be like, you're really too much. And I'm like, no way happened on the good Wife. Like, don't do that. My question is, what are you doing on your phone that you need to be like, I [00:19:00] cannot have the company look at at nothing.
Nothing. That's the thing. That's the thing. Even I like that. Like I was worried and I am like, le threat level, negative 15, you know what I mean? Like, I, I just take it too seriously. But, um, I know may maybe, maybe you gotta, uh, do your feet picks, uh, website on your, on your personal phone, not your company new one.
I was like, I don't want you to know. I called my mom. I don't want you to know. I look at Star Trek Fanfic. Yeah. I don't, I don't want you to know that. Um, so he's going to ask Clinda, get to get these phone records. Meanwhile, Alicia is in the midst of like, figuring out about a lot of information and Eli calls, and I love this because it's so Eli, she's like, I can't Eli right now.
I'm on a death row appeal. And he's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But, um, now he was like, did you not just hear me? I'm on a death row appeal. He's like, oh, I, I thought you were joking. Or like, oh, a death row appeal. Like a real one. Because he, he's so, he's so in the mode of like, nothing else is as [00:20:00] important as me right now.
Right. I am the most important thing. So he just, he lets everything else float by. He is like, oh, I, I, I guess if you're trying to save a man's life, I suppose that for this one time, that might be more important than what I got going on. Yeah. And he is calling because there's a four o'clock appointment to meet with the ethics committee and, um, Alicia's like, no, like, I'm under death row appeal.
I can do this after Saturday. So they set it up for Sunday at seven. Um, at this point Eli meets the person giving this ethics committee presentation and he is expecting to meet with Mitch. Mm-hmm. Expecting to meet with Mitch. Ends up meeting with the Marilyn Rah, um, played by Melissa George, if you ever watched the show Alias, she was quite a character on that show.
Um. Did younger days, Jason have some feelings and thoughts about Melissa George? [00:21:00] Yes, he did. Um, and, uh, this good wife, uh, I'm sure I felt the same thing when I saw her and good wife was like, Ooh, it's Melissa, George, and listen, uh, Marilyn, who, you know, 'cause Eli is confused. I thought I was meeting with a Mitch.
She's like, Nope, uh, people just call me Mitch. She's like, why? She's like, I don't know, but probably because if I get known as Mitch, then people think I'm a man and give me actual job opportunities. Like, I thought, I thought that was probably what the thing really was. Uh, this is like good on you, Marilyn.
Good on you. Um, well, and also being blonde and do like, and, and speaking like this all the time. Yes. Wow. Like, come on. That's, that's not your real tone of voice. Why are you, why are you doing that? What do you, what do you mean? I, I just, I don't know what you could ever mean Mr. President, happy birthday to you.
Like that's not, that's not your real tone of voice. Come on. Well, and I have to say like I did not expect Eli to give her the full up and down. Like we did not need that as an audience. Like we know that Melissa, [00:22:00] George is Melissa George, you know what I mean? Like we did not need to follow this. So get looks her up, looks her down.
It's like, okay, we're gonna have to reschedule. Perfect. Fine. She walks out, Eli follows, finds out, finds Peter chatting with Marilyn in the hall about the chap, the Steve of Chap or chief of staff candidate, and Eli's like Uhuh. Mm-hmm. Run alarm. He runs, runs, he runs up, runs up and acts like he just caught the naked eye.
He's like, what's going on over here? It's like, we're, we're just talking to Eli, like calm down, leaves the room for the Holy Spirit. Like relax. Not supposed to happen. Um, so she basically says like, this could be an ethics concern because who you are targeting for this job. Mickey is someone that, um, had hired Eli for crisis.
Um, work. And so she's like, I can't tell you not to hire him, but it could be an ethics file, like concern. And Eli's like, yeah, yeah, bye. And Peter's like, she's just doing her job. Eli. Yeah. Well, p peter clocks, Eli's look like. [00:23:00] Mm-hmm. It's, it's fine. Relax, relax. It's all good. It's all good. Don't worry. 'cause let's be honest, Eli's worried because it's Peter.
Like we know what Peter's done, so, you know. Yeah, exactly. It's Peter. It's Peter. So Will and Carrie are preparing to like leave to go to court. They're having a conversation in the hallway. Will's like, go get the mobile printer. Like, okay, I'm on it. So Carrie leaves will, goes to the elevator and Alicia is also at the elevator.
But you notice they don't get in the elevator? No. Like right outside the elevator. Yeah, because elevator. Means something. Something. It's a, it's a sacred place where we do sacred things. So we're gonna have the conversation outside the elevator. So they hold, they hold the door waiting for Carrie, and while they're doing this, they have like this conversation, [00:24:00] or they try to have this conversation, at least Alicia's like tries to start it and will's like, it's okay, we can talk when this is over.
Like, we don't have to talk now. And Alicia's like, I really have to, and Carrie comes in, so they're not able to finish their conversation. Meanwhile, Diane is like, go ahead. I was gonna say, it's always like, we'll talk when this is over. Like Yeah, you say that every time, but yeah. Yeah. Go ahead to the next part.
I'm really excited. Basically stalking Geneva Pine Indoor. Yes. Geneva, pine, Geneva. You have my heart. Geneva Pine. I was like, yes. We're start, we're starting season five outright with Geneva Pine in the building. She's still here, folks. And she came and clutch this episode. She sure did. And we learned a little bit more about her character.
Um, and she spent time in South Bend, apparently. So, um, Diane is there basically say like, Hey, uh, you ran this hair test. Why'd you run this hair test? I need, [00:25:00] I need this hair test. And she was like, you're coming to me now, like you had 10 years to save this guy's life. Come and now you're coming to me when you only have 40 hours left.
Dan's like, okay, this is not the answer that I need, but we, I have a lead and I need more time. So she calls well and tells them so. And then after I find my spot in my, I found it. I'm, um, then we see Barry Shack, um, stalling a court. He's doing his best job at stalling a court and Will walks in and I'd like to introduce my co-counsel.
Will Gardner. Will Gardner. And I was, I thought that was fun and I was like watching that. But then I learned who the a SA was over here. None other than our famous from the SBA side of this podcast, detective third watch, yeah. Molly Price, who is like, who is known to be on Elle's bed as [00:26:00] one of the rotating detectives who like to call detective third watch because Marissa knows her best from the show, third watch.
And I was like, oh my God, not detective third watch. I was like, wait till Marissa gets a load of this. It's an all caps in my notes, detective third watch. Mm-hmm. Um, and so we learned and when, when Carrie had called Barry at the beginning, he is like, we don't wanna be in like, we don't wanna be part of your class action, but we wanna be in it.
And so we didn't really know in what capacity this was gonna be, but it turns out that there are basically pitching Eddie as evidence in this case. 'cause basically I think the case is, is lethal injection torture and um, you know, against the eighth Amendment. And so they're saying Eddie's experience and his testimony can be evidence in this case.
And everyone can kind of see through this, including the judge who's none other than Jeffrey Tambo. Have we seen him before? No. I think this is the first time Jeffrey has been on the Good [00:27:00] Wife. Yeah. But yeah, he was in and he's been canceled also, but then he was also in things, yeah, Ru you know him best probably from Arrested Development, I would think.
And then also transparent. Um, but yeah, we don't talk a lot about Jeffrey Tamura nowadays for no different reasons. Yeah. So he's there and he is kind of can see what's going on, like you're trying to stay this execution, you know, what can we do? And Detective third watch is like, this is the outrageous, we can't have this.
And uh, the judge is like, basically you have until Monday to depose him. This is, this is the time you have, use it wisely. And we get another 48 hours and it isn't what, and Will says, get on this with Kalinda. We just bought ourselves another 48 hours. At least. She's probably like, no, I won't. Maybe I'll, maybe I'll call on the phone or I'll talk to Robin, who will talk to Kalinda.
Yeah. We'll [00:28:00] play the longest game of telephone. Uh, at this point, this is when we get the credits is right after this, which is like almost halfway through the entire episode. When we come back from the credits, we see that Zach and Grace are waiting in Governor Elect office. I should mention, we do have a different office for Peter in this, in this world.
Um, I don't know why they're waiting there. I'm guessing it's for the ethics presentation because we learn later how involved a family can be in this situation. But Grace is getting a lot of attention. I did note I said, uh, it looks like someone's had a growth spurt between seasons four and five in the, in the day that it took in Showtime.
Grace. Grace has grown up a little bit, and I don't know if this storyline was put into address that. You know, I don't, I don't know, but, we'll, we'll continue. It makes me really uncomfy I'll say that. Yeah, it's not great. It's not great. So Alicia is sitting in [00:29:00] the ethics presentation with Marilyn presenting an Eli attending, and she says one of the greatest trivia effects about the state of Illinois, if you ever need to know it, four outta the eight governors in the state of Illinois did go to prison.
Um, that is true. Uh, I feel as listen, I would, we have, we are coming out of that. We are, we have a good, a good man in jb, but, um, I, I would, it was a rough couple years. I would hassle you about that, but Baltimore mayors have not had a really good track record. Let me just say that. So I, I have no room to criticize your, your hometown.
Oh man. So in this presentation, she's basically saying like. Because of the, the environment these days, the spouse's choices and the children's choices are the governor's choices. They are all one, one unit. And she's like telling Alicia, don't worry, I've looked into Lockhart Gardner stuff. It shouldn't be a problem as [00:30:00] long as you're not using your position or Peter's position to get clients, which has been done upon occasion and during this entire time.
Alicia's like, okay, we need to talk, like, I need to talk to you. Like, I need to tell you something. And it's funny because we don't really know why Alicia quote unquote needs to talk. Like, they kind of like, 'cause Alicia like looking Marilyn up and down of like, yeah. And he's kinda looking at Eli like, really, bruh, you think this is a good idea?
Like it, she, she shoots him a look of like, Hmm, you see this because I'm seeing this. This might be a problem, but. She's like, we need to talk. But the talk is not about Marilyn apparently. No. The talk is about starting the firm. I have to say Peter was very happy and supportive there. There you go. I put in my Peter is proud or whatever.
Exactly. And Eli's reaction was like, have you told Will and Diane? And Diane and Diane. Oh, buddy. Peter, I'm sure is [00:31:00] also ecstatic for Alicia. He's like, this means you don't have to work with fool anymore and I can stop being feeling threatened all the time. Yes. So then we go to the deposition in jail where Eddie is talking about how long it took to get an IV in.
He says he heard a nurse say, oops, when there was blood coming out of his neck and that a female nurse had to walk out because she was in tears and was like, that nurse gotta talk to that person. And I just, this is one thing that I love about these like death row cases, is just how quickly. They like, move on this.
They have to, but it's just like, oh, here's an opening. I'm gonna take it. Let's talk to this nurse. Well, and that, and also was interesting, like the blood lust that some people have to like get this done. Like, no, we'd to kill this man to now like, he needs to die now. We cannot stall. We not do this. He needs to die.
Like, wow, these people really want this man dead. [00:32:00] Like quick, fast, in a hurry. Yeah. Yeah. So they argue that they need to talk to the, the nurse in court and the state, AKA, the state of Indiana, AKA detective third watch is saying, look, we keep the identification of all of our nurses confidential, because it's not something great to put like out there that that's what you do.
It's like, huh, well maybe you shouldn't be a nurse that does mm-hmm. Death executions ashamed of it, because they even bring up the fact that like the hippocratic. Oath says, do no harm to anyone. And this is basically, you're like, you're killing someone. So Yeah, for sure. Without consent, you're killing them without their consent.
Right. Can you, can you walk me through, I know you have a passion for geography now this court is in Indiana. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I have the same question. So was it, was it like traveling by map? Was it like this is not realistic that we're traveling between [00:33:00] Chicago and Indiana so fast. I'm not a big geography person.
How, how far away is Indiana from Chicago? Oh, it's like, it can be as short as like 10 minutes depending on where Chicago you are. However, it depends on where in Indiana you are. And this is what I was confused about is because they mentioned South Bend, which is more central in the state of Indiana. So that would be like almost a two hour ride.
But then if they're up in Northern Indiana, like that could be a quick back and forth. But there it. I think they were only in Indiana in the execution room and in the jail, but they were in Chicago for the, like I was trying to figure out the jurisdiction here and I couldn't really figure out, I don't think the courtroom stuff would've been in Indiana.
No, I don't. I mean, I guess, I don't know. But it was federal court and federal court like would happen in Indiana, but probably in Indianapolis instead of in Chicago. Okay, I see, I see. Not as egregious [00:34:00] as traveling from Chicago to New York. No, not, no, no. Still that's still number one. That's still number one.
Uh, it's very blatant to the court that, um, will, is using this as a ploy and, but at the same time the nurse is like, or the judge is like, when can the nurse be here? I was like, we could be here tomorrow after the execution basically. And he is like, nah, get a, get the nurse here before the execution or be held in contempt.
Yep. So Diane and Robin, um, go after Geneva. They're staying on the Geneva case and we learned that she left South Bend Geneva being left South Bend after this case. So we knew, she knows that something's wrong. She knows that this something went, went down. Um, but we also learned that Geneva was in South Bend.
Is that where she was? The times that she wasn't there? I have no idea when was she in South Bend, but I thought it was interesting that we learned this little tidbit about Geneva. Mm-hmm. [00:35:00] She ha did have the hair retested. And Robin brings up the question of why it was because the timing of the hair testing was after the snitch had died in this a week after the snitch died.
Yeah. Yeah. Geneva tells Diane and Robin that she was using the snitch on another case and he got freedom. And a new identity. Dun, he didn't really die, so he is not really dead. He's got a new identity. We faked his, we faked his death, and uh, they kind of yada yed over the hair because they're like, see the, the test says it's there.
Like no, it doesn't, and then we just don't really touch that again. It was like, okay, is it his hair or not? His hair. Meanwhile, back at the firm, Kalinda and David are chatting and um, David is very suspicious, kind of leaning in on Kalinda at this point. Like, why aren't you doing your job? Like, what is going on?
Are you going with them? Are you thinking [00:36:00] of leaving with them? Like, what is the story? Meanwhile, at the governor elect's office, there is a photo with the ethics committee. And Peter says, ha ha ha. This last time the ethics committee was smiling in my presence. Ha. And then Marilyn's like, see you later.
Basic or something. And his response is, not until you call me Peter and Eli is like this bad. Yeah, bad. Let, let, come on Peter, let's have the talk. Let's go bad. Not only is this bad optics, like this is just bad in general. We do not want sex to be an issue here. And Peter's like taking the stance of like whatever quote unquote feminist man would do and say like, it's not, we can't like fire her because of her looks, because you can't, it is against the law to do that, but.
You always like, why don't we just like, promote her or move her or get her like away from you as quick as possible. Let's get her outta your orbit. 'cause this is not a good, like, you know, as much as you want [00:37:00] to not give Peter credit, he is, he does seem to be genuine. He's like, we can't fire someone based on their looks Like that's not right.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That is true. But she what? She's like, oh, Mr. Feminist. Like, come on, come on. Uh, because it works in his favor. Like, if it wasn't Peter, I would believe it, but I, I do not know if you fully comprehend my extent of hatred for this man. Yeah. All the credit I'm trying to give Peter will be blown outta the water later.
Oh yeah. I felt so. You're gonna be right. But I wait for it. I'll wait for it. Yeah. Eli goes as fast to be like, you know, Hey, your enemy's gonna love to crown a new bimbo. I was like, oh my. Yeah. Eli, that was bad. Come on Eli. That was bad. And also like, she is really smart, like. She good. Her job? Yeah, she's really good at it.
So we back in court, we have the nurse on the stand. I was wondering how they were gonna do this, um, maintain her anon, amenity, keeping her, yeah, I messed that one up. But, um, keeping her behind a screen so that we don't know who she is. [00:38:00] And she's basically being asked all these questions by Alicia, like that are, along with what Eddie said had happened.
So like, did you leave? Did you leave in tears? Did you leave because of the blood? And she's like, Uhhuh. Yep, yep. That's what happened. And then Alicia goes, were you coached by the prosecution to agree with me on everything? She's like, sorta kind of, not really, but also, yes, I was just encouraged just to not disagree with you.
Yeah, that was, uh, what we thought. And then she asked the question, do you think he was tortured? And the nurse says, I think he was in pain unnecessarily, basically. And so, yes, I think that he was tortured. And then the question gets thrown out there because of the eighth amendment case, I think is like, do you think this is a systematic issue with lethal injection?
And um, the nurse says, not really. It was his veins. Like, everyone perks up. Everyone like Uhoh, it [00:39:00] wasn't an issue before. He has something called rolling veins. Will's like, we need a physical, like, let, let's get this done. And the judge is like, okay, let's get physicals so that both teams are gonna get physicals of this man.
This man has been through like so much. Mm-hmm. And when they walk out of the courtroom. Alicia goes, that was good. And during this too, like Will reacted to Alicia, like figuring out the coaching situation. Like I think like he was definitely, there was like some looks and vibes happening. Oh, they, they were getting, they were getting hot for each other for sure.
Yeah. Yeah. Oh my God. Could lawyering, turns me on so much. Like we, we know, we, we know about Alicia's vapors and uh, you know, that they were, they were definitely feeling each other in that moment. Well, yeah, because then she's like, that was good. And she goes, no, you were good. And was like, okay. Yeah, I agree.
Okay, that's fine. They make phone calls. Alicia does call Kalinda and um, [00:40:00] will calls Diane. Then back at the IC apartment. Zach is on his phone with his friends and this is the grossest thing. This is just gross. This is just gross. So his friends are like, yo, what's up with your sister? Like when she gets so hot, I was like, what are you talking about?
Uh, two days ago after season four. Oh, you haven't seen the list. And so they send him a link to turbo chap.com and there's a list of the most attractive political daughters and Graces number four. After, after the Palin daughter, like after some real people. Did you read the blurb that was associated with Grace?
No. What did you, what did it say? The blurb was like, the, the age of consent in Chicago was 17. So we've officially started our countdown of 15 months until, until, uh, grace Fork is legal. That would happen though. Do you remember when [00:41:00] people would have Oh yeah. For like Lindsay Lohan and like all this stuff.
Like, I remember and I. I do not like the way this was shot because Zach sees a list. Zach sees Grace's picture and just stares at it. I'm like, this is gross. Uncomfortable. This is weird. Like, why is he staring at like that? Like this is this, it wasn't the look of shock or uh, dismay or disgust. It was a lean in.
It was, it was like Zach. Yeah. That's your sister, my guy. Do you know that? Relax. Relax man. Relax. Yeah. It was weird. I was like, that's that's, that's weird. Because it definitely got the like romcom, like zoom in. Yeah. And someone like looking at something sort of treatment. Yeah. I was like, we, we gotta talk to the director of photography on this [00:42:00] episode.
Like, what, what was that about? Are you okay sir? Or ma'am? And also like, it's really hard, it's really hard to talk about this like in general, but given everything that's in the news about like Epstein and Epstein files, it's just really weird. It's even weirder now, I would say. Makes me Uncomfy. Yes. Yeah.
CIA's leaving the office. She's in the parking lot. She walks by and there's Carrie and his like, I don't know, and a gang rat pack, like kind of vibe. Um, and she, he updates her on the fact that they found office space in the loop. It's only like $20 per square foot as opposed to the 60 that at Sweeney's offer.
And that's great except for it's only available in three weeks. And Alicia's like, great, we'll just get like rent office or temp office, um, space in the meantime. And everyone's like, nuh no. Like, no, we don't. No. [00:43:00] Just like, why? And carrie's like, well, chum Home's gonna need some work. And like, for three weeks.
And then the news comes out that everybody wants to stay for their bonuses. Yeah. And Alicia's like, we can't keep fooling the partners. And stupid new Carrie is like, you mean fooling will? And it's like, bitch a problem. Yeah. Yeah. I like that she called him out on that. Like, like, do you have follow up? You little children out here sitting on cars like you, like, you're like your teenagers.
And the, the solution here, and it seems to have been the way the entire time Kerry's been trying to set up this thing is we will take a vote. I just, I put in my notes, Alicia's reaction was Juliana face. Mm-hmm. It was, what do you mean voting? What? Like, girl, you, you are barely, you are barely into this and you're already looking to form a, like a, uh, demo.
The [00:44:00] a, uh, dictatorship, like you're supposed to be different. Uh, uh, Juliana. Uh, Alicia, you're supposed to be different. You're supposed to stick other people's thoughts into account. She's like, um, no. And like, and Carrie calls her out, knew Carrie calls her out on that, but, so it was okay when you needed to wait to leave, but now that it's our issue, you don't wanna wait to leave.
And she's like, it's like, girl, I thought, I thought we was trying to be different. I was trying to be better. Yeah. Uh, the tag team of Kalinda and Robin, do you find Tommy the snitch, um, breaking into a car and pull him into their car to evade the police? And basically he is sticking with his testimony at this point that he's, um, he knows that Eddie killed the two girls because of the ski mask that he was wearing at this time.
This is like the only thing that ties it together that he could know the truth. Meanwhile, Carrie goes back, carrie's back at the office, tells [00:45:00] Alicia that Kalinda found the snitch. Kalinda found the snitch. Not that Robin found the snitch, but Kalinda found the snitch. Um, but he, but Kalinda doesn't believe the snitch in sticking with this testimony at this point.
Carrie checks in is like, Hey, are we cool about like, what happened in the parking lot? And she's like, yeah, I mean, yeah. And then. There's a lot happening. Will's like, Hey Alicia, can you come into my office? And Alicia gets pulled into the office with like, pretty much the entire partner team. Everybody.
Like they're all staring at her. Uh, yeah. Everybody minus Julius. I don't, yeah, Mike. Yeah. Don't you say Julius, I'll never forget Julius never forget. Yeah. Our friend Julius and like, they're all just like a gang, a mob like staring at her like, what's up girl? Like, we need, we need to talk. And basically she's like being asked, are the fourth years leaving?
I'm like, no. Like, how many times do we have to have this conversation? This is like the [00:46:00] third time they're like, we think something's up with the fourth years. Like bru eventually when there's smoke, there's fire. Yeah. Yeah. What do you think? Yeah. And she's like super uncomfortable while being asked these questions.
And basically she is told to get closer to Carrie, um, to get more information. David is like giving her. Like David Eyes, that's all I could think of, of like, I'm onto you. And she does have trouble like exiting the room where she has trouble with the door, so she's a little nervous. Meanwhile, back in court, the physic physician reports come in.
There was one done by Will and the team, and then there was done one done by detective or k or a s, a third watch as we're, we should probably call her in this. Um, so a SA third watch is like, it's cool, we'll go with their version of it. Like, we don't have to go with ours. It's okay. And the, and the just is like, so you would rather lose your class action [00:47:00] suit as long as this guy gets executed.
Okay. Blood lust. That's that blood lust of like, yeah, we're, we're, we're gonna throw it all away to see this one man get murdered today instead of tomorrow. Like, bro. Yeah. And she's like, don't worry, we even talked to the warden. He's gonna make like these changes so that it's easier at this point. There's no reason to delay.
She's like, okay. Robin goes into Diane's office at, back at the firm and says, Hey, I don't think Eddie did it. It because when I was working in the treasury department, we used something use people called information brokers. Um, and so maybe this information about the ski mask came from an information broker.
And so they go to Geneva to get the files on the situation. And Geneva is like semi annoyed, but also not at the same time. Um, she's like, he snitched for us three times. Here's the files. She walks away. I was like, aren't you gonna help us? And she ends up helping. Ah, Angelica, [00:48:00] Angelica, Eli. Okay. Uh, back at the, back at the governor elect office.
Okay, let me just set the scene. Peter is sitting in his desk, the door is open. He can see the desk on the other side to which Marilyn is propped up upon with one leg on the ground and one leg, uh, hanging off the desk while she's talking and reviewing a file with someone. And Peter is very Peter in this situation.
He has not changed at all. He is like looking this woman up and down, thinking the thoughts, doing all this stuff. So much so that he has to get up. And leave and ask Eli why Alicia is leaving Lock Gardner's. Like, is it about Will, because I am in a situation where I'm having impure thoughts about someone in front of me.
Maybe my wife [00:49:00] is doing the same thing. Hey, I'm wondering if he's like, can I get an excuse to bang Marilyn if, if Alicia is banging Will, then I can bang Marilyn. Right? Like, is she still obsessed with Will? 'cause she, if she is, then I could probably get away with, uh, having sex with Marilyn. And Eli's like, nah, I think she just wants to, you know, do better for herself.
He's like, ah, okay, fine. Um, I guess you have to ditch Marilyn then. I do like how Eli was like, I wouldn't presume that that's the situation, like still protecting Alicia a little bit. Um, yeah. And Peter's like, whatever, just promote this woman. Yeah. 'cause Eli is, is, you know, he has to not Eli uh, Peter has to kind of go back and be like.
Yeah, you were kind of right. Like I'm, I'm kind of, I'm kind of being a douchebag again, just, uh, stalking this woman with my eyes. And it's a very, very bad look. 'cause it's like you are affecting someone's career trajectory. You are affecting, yes you are in this instance promoting her, but you're only doing it to [00:50:00] stop yourself from temptation because you can't keep it in your page.
You can't keep your eyes and your thoughts to yourself. So it is, it is a very icky look for, for Peter. Thank you very much. Yeah. Diane, Robin and Geneva, uh, are reviewing all the files and they find that there is a link between the typist who typed up reports in all of these three cases. And so they call her in.
She's like, I don't know what I could do to help you. I don't catch the bad guys. And Diane's like, that's so great. We just wanna keep you outta jail. I'm just like, what? We've like we know your brother's a jail guard. We know you give him information and we're gonna meet with Tommy next. So you better start, you better start talking because otherwise he's gonna, he's gonna flip on you then.
Big brother of the year over here, Zach decides to talk to Grace about this list. Grace is like, all of your friends wanna talk to me now. Like, what did you tell them? [00:51:00] And he doesn't say anything. He doesn't do anything. He just goes over to her, her computer and pulls up the list and leaves and this poor girl has to find out her own thing or her own placement on this list is just, again, I hate the storyline so bad.
How passive aggressive. Just like walk in and be like, me here, look. Look at this. I don't wanna talk about it. I don't wanna talk about how hot you are now. My sister. Yes. And at the same time, like Alicia is home, so like, I don't know why they wouldn't tell. Mom at the situation, but she is distracted because Carrie has come calling and she's like, listen, we need to leave at the end of the week.
And he's like, well, where is this coming? First week I was in a meeting, we need to leave at the end of the week. And carrie's like, Hey, remember though, like, well, we talked about the beginning, like we didn't like the fact that di Diane and Will just made decisions by Fiat. Like we really want to have a democracy here.
Like that's, that's what we wanna do. [00:52:00] But Alicia does give a good counterpoint, right? She's like, as a partner, I have a fiduciary responsibility to lock our Gartner. I can't be going around, you know, surreptitiously making plots that would affect. The law firm, because that opens me up to lawsuits that will will say, I didn't try my best.
I didn't work as hard as I could because I knew I was leaving. So we gotta get gone. The sooner the better. Yes, yes. And this is like, then she brings up like, do you think we would take this death row case? And Kara's like, I don't know, probably. And she's like, yeah, but it would be really expensive. Kira's like, yeah, like BlackRock.
Gardner didn't even take these cases until six or seven years in. Like, I don't know what you're expecting here. Are you having second thoughts? And her reaction is like, well, I don't know. I like watching Diane and Will work. Girl, you are so wishy-washy. Like, ugh, get, get off the fence. Make a decision. Stop.
Like, stop [00:53:00] wavering, because that's, that's all she's been doing. Who should I do this? Should I do that? Well, meanwhile, everybody's waiting for your decision. You're like, oh, I know. Should I do this? Like girl. Come on, you. You, it's too late now. You have plotted, you have given your commitment to all these other fourth years.
Like it's, it's time. It's, it's over. It's too late for this. I love watching Will Diane work? Nope. Too late. You're done. You're out. And Carrie, Carrie, Carrie gives her his favorite line. Alicia, we are the new Will and Diane like, okay, we get it. Yeah. But that is enough to get her to say, okay, don't use the phones.
Mm-hmm. Like, don't do it. They are deposing the warden. This is the day of the execution, like hours before the execution deposing the water. The warden who is planning to give more water to Eddie and make sure he is hydrated so that he doesn't have the same experience as he did before. They're gonna place an IV in their foot.
And it comes out that this warden was not present for the first preparation for [00:54:00] this execution. And also he lets slip kind of that they didn't have the sodium chloride. Yeah, he was, he was too busy trying to get this drug to kill this man to uh, be at the preparation. 'cause he was, he was trying to procure this drug.
And if you remember the last time this guy was here, that was the big issue as well, uh, running out of, 'cause they, I think was, the drugs were expired, they were trying to, uh, kill this person with, and Diane noticed that and called that into question. And that's, that's the reason why last time we were able to delay, uh, executions until we could try and get something worked out.
Yeah. And during this whole time, will is sitting there and he's like, huh. And Alicia is like, oh, what is it? Can you tell me baby, you got that look like you got an idea? You know, that really turns me on. Yeah. And he is like, no, I'm not gonna tell you. Uh, so basically the state of edu execution goes in front of the judge that we've been working [00:55:00] with this whole time because he's already hearing the case for the eighth Amendment.
And we get Tommy on the stand. To, and he go, Tommy the snitch, Tommy the snitch, withdraws his original testimony saying that it was Eddie. And he says in court that he received information from Leslie man, the typist. And so this basically like wins the case for, for Eddie. However, the judge is like too little, too late.
Like I don't know why this didn't happen at the beginning. This is a really dumb judgment in my opinion. Yeah. For, um, but also like at the same time he's like, judgments must stand. We can't be wishy-washy with the law. And I'm like, but that's the whole point of the law is like when new information is discovered, like new things happen.
Yeah. And the way that was pre presented to us is that this confession is kind of the crux of the case. Mm-hmm. That this was a big factor in, uh, convicting Eddie in the first place. But now you're just like, oh no, it actually doesn't matter. Like, okay. That's wild. Yeah. [00:56:00] So it's time for the execution. We see a very solemn scene of Eddie not wanting to stand, uh, not wanting to go through with this.
Again, I couldn't blame him. The guard even says, Eddie, you know, the way, like how many times this man had to do this. Um, Eli does take time to promote Marilyn. Marilyn from the Ethics Committee. Mm-hmm. Okay. Has been promoted to the Transit Authority Board where you have authority over transit. And good old Marilyn, she, she's right through this.
Yeah. And she wants to go talk to Peter. And Eli's like, nuh, if he wanted to talk to you, he would. Um, he can, he can't look at you or he'll get hard. Yeah. Basically. Basically. And so he goes in to talk to Peter and she's like, how's she take it? She took like a pro. Well, there she did have a point about her, she of staff.
He's like, yo, she's too an. Anal [00:57:00] anal iss what we need right now, bro. Bro, bro. You said, you said anal bro, bro. It's like, oh, that was funny, right? Oh, that should be a new state motto. Wow, bro. It was a nice, it was a nice bro moment though, right? It's good. It's good to see a, as disgusting as it may be, it's good to see a nice bro moment between Peter and Eli.
We don't get many of those. We don't get many of those. We don't get many of those. And in this moment, Peter's like, Hey, why don't you just be my chief of staff? Mila's like me? And this is what really got me going into the rabbit hole of how many television characters have been modeled after Rah Emanuel, because this is the second.
Character that I know. Um, Eli, I I did look it up before. It is confirmed that Eli was muddled after Ro rah Emanuel, as was Josh Leman on Good or on the Good Wing, the West Wing. Um, rah [00:58:00] Manuel, if you don't know, was a, is still a Chicago politician. He did a lot of groundwork, did a lot of crisis management, ended up being chief of staff for Obama.
So it's a pretty clear parallel here, but I don't know. No, we don't need any more rah Emanuel characters on television. Just putting, putting that out into the universe. Um, so time for the execution. Diana asks Will, if he's going tonight and she's like, we did everything we could and will's like not everything.
And then he makes a phone call. Uh, we do see Eddie getting an IV in his foot. Um, and the warden is being very. Like over ward a knee, I don't wanna say over ward knee. This is what should happen. Like very kind of like informing him what's going on, all of this stuff. He's like, Eddie, I'm right here with you.
Knock on the door. Someone's outside. He's like, Eddie, I'll be right back. Turns out is the DEA at the D is like, Hey, did you use the post office to send [00:59:00] sodium chloride to your jail? And he is like, Uhhuh, I sure did because I needed it for this execution. They're like, okay, great. We're gonna have to confiscate those drugs.
So we're like, oh, that part, that part is done. But then when Eddie walks out of the execution room, Diane and Alicia are there to tell him that the execution is on hold because the governor doesn't wanna keep doing this another time. Well, I mean, not even on hold, it's just it's not gonna happen. Now. He's like, not gonna get killed, but it's like, yay, you're not gonna be executed.
You're just gonna stay in prison for the rest of your life. Okay. But I did, did he, did he do it or did he not do it? Like, that's, that's my question. I don't think he did it based on, um, what we were present. At least that's what we were being led to believe. But yeah. And they're like, okay, you didn't, you didn't die.
Bye. Have a good life in prison. And then they walk off feeling like they did, like the wor like [01:00:00] the be the best work. But this man still has to Yeah. We're, we're gonna go, we're gonna go live our lives outside now. Bye. Have fun here. I wish you, I wish you could have just thrown in a, like, and we're gonna start working on your appeal.
Yeah. You know? Yeah. Or so and so like, we know a really good lawyer who's gonna take it from here or something like that to kind of give them, give them some, some care. Kinda what your neeva pine was there. Yeah, that would've been cool. It felt like she had like a personal tie in this maybe because, uh, the, the, uh, person was black that was being put to death.
It felt like she really had a personal stake in this. So I kind of wish she was there. I know she probably has like, it's probably some sort of like, uh, conflict of interest 'cause she is a da, uh, for Chicago. Um, but yeah, I, I kind of wish like they had that moment of like, I saved you black man. Boom. As opposed to two white women save the black man.
Yeah, exactly. So the white savior leaves. Bye. Uh, back at the [01:01:00] office there is celebration. Will and Diana are gonna have a drink. Um, will or Alicia does ask Will, like, was it you that called the DEA? He's like me. No. She's like, oh God, will, she's so, so forthright. Just so. You do the right thing all the time.
I mean, most of the time when you do the wrong thing, then I get turned off. But now you're in the right thing. Oh, now I'm turned this, this is why I need to leave. This is why I have to leave. I cannot witness these moments from you. And she's just about to tell him, I think, like mm-hmm. Like, will I need to tell you something?
And he's like, don't. No. I mean, yeah. Like, that's it. Like we we're on a merro, we gotta get off. No big deal. The, it's fine. And Alicia says under her breath, I hope you don't end up hating me. He's like, huh? What'd you say? She's like, nothing. Have a good night. Bye. [01:02:00] Yeah. That is our episode. Good episode. Good opening, uh, of the season.
Really great. You know, I love, I love when we have to figure out something. We have to run from one place to another. Uh, you know, really do some detective work, get things figured out. And then of course we had the fun like. New firm dynamics that we see. We get to meet new Carrie. Okay. Yeah. We got to meet new Carrie.
Yeah. Ooh, big, big highlight. A lot of new Carrie is around. I mean, he is around though. He's he's here for a bit. Well, yeah, but like he wasn't, but now he is. Well, yeah. Now, now we get to meet new Carrie who was just old Carrie, who wa I guess been around since Carrie has been around. Like there's, 'cause like, come on.
