Live More, Earn More

The Season I’m In Now in Business (And Why I’ve Stopped Hustling)

We don’t talk enough about seasons in business.

In this quieter, more reflective episode, Lucy shares honestly about the season she’s in right now - a phase of simplification, creativity, and nervous-system repair after years of pushing, hustling, and holding everything together.
This is a conversation about:
  • Letting go of someone else’s version of success
  • Building a business that fits your real life (not an online blueprint)
  • Why slowing down doesn’t mean giving up
  • How pruning, simplifying, and hibernating can lead to your next growth phase
If you’ve been feeling tired, uninspired, or quietly questioning whether you’re doing business “wrong” - this episode is your reminder that you might just be in a different season.

Growth isn’t always loud.

 Sometimes it’s happening underground.

Passive income isn't magic money
while you sip cocktails on the

beach, it takes work to create.

It is something where you work up
front and then you can sell again and

again, but there are pitfalls to it.

And there are amazing highs.

I'm gonna share the highs and lows of
creating passive income and why you

as a 50 something can create passive
income and really change the way

that you work and live in your life.

You no longer have to be
chained to the nine to five.

Hi, I'm Lucy Griffiths and I'm gonna
walk you through some of the basics

of passive income and where you can
easily build a life that you love.

So what is passive income?

Passive income is basically a way of
you creating a digital product and then

using that to sell again and again.

And in creating that digital
product, whether it's.

Some kind of workbook, whether it's an
ebook, whether it's , some audio that

you sell on, Amazon or a book on Kindle,
or whether it's a course or a membership

or it's affiliate income through talking
about a product and recommending it.

These are always of
creating passive income.

Perhaps it's investing
in the stock market.

There are multiple ways that
you can create passive income.

I started out my passive income
journey by investing in property.

So there are so many ways that
you can create income and use

that to sell again and again, but.

It does take upfront work.

It may be that you have money to invest
in the stock market or money to invest

in properties, but very often if you
don't have those sources of income, then

it's about turning what you know, you
skills, your experience, your knowledge

and expertise, particularly as an over
50 something you have a bucket load

of experience that you can share with
the world, and you have the time, you

have the resources to be able to turn
this into a successful digital product,

whether that's a course, whether
that's a membership or some kind of

group program, consultancy business.

You can take and leverage what you
know, your skills and your experience,

and turn that and package that up into
something that you can sell on repeat.

But there are pitfalls to it.

It does require you to be willing to put
yourself out there and you have to start,

you can't sit there and say, I'd love to
do this, and you know, I want to do it.

And sort of go around the loop,
go around the cycle of creating,

creating and not actually.

Implementing and putting it out there
because so often we can second guess

ourselves, doubt ourselves and question,
oh, is this the right thing to do?

Should I revise this?

And I've seen many times people
where they will tweak and test and

rewrite their website a million times.

Not a million times, but maybe like five
or six times, and to question everything

that they do have that self doubt.

Rather than saying, right, I'm
just gonna go for it and thinking

that it's gotta be perfect.

What I would say is you
can ask your audience.

You can test and you can tweak, but put
out something and then trust your gut.

Go with one iteration.

Don't try and do five products.

Do one test that get feedback.

Really go all in on one product.

And then you can build from there.

It's no point trying to have a multitude
of products because your attention,

your focus will be diverted five ways.

If your focus is on one thing, you're
gonna be far more successful because

you put your energy, your momentum
into one product, and it makes you

much more powerful in the way that you
show up, the way that people resonate

with you, it's much easier to sell.

And so it, you know, the, the power
and the momentum goes from just

having that one product that you talk
about, rather than it being diluted.

We're talking about five different
products and people getting

confused with like, hang on a
minute, there's all these different

offerings, which one is right for me?

And they get so confused.

They don't buy.

So the thing to know is that as
someone who's 50 something, you

have bucket loads of experience.

You don't have to be young just
'cause you're good at tech.

There are really simple systems
for you to create something

without feeling like you are.

Super techy.

Keep it simple.

In the beginning, you are just
testing and tweaking so you don't

have to know all the answers, but
you can build something, but it is

about taking action and going for it.

The reality is that you have to do the
upfront work, and so it is about doing the

upfront work in order to sell on repeat.

And so that means.

Being willing to create that digital
course, create that product, , put out

your services, contact lots of companies
for consulting, work, whatever it may be.

There is upfront work, but once
you've built it, once you've sown

the seeds, the farmer plants the
seeds, does all the work, does the

watering, does the sewing, does all
of that work, waters it continually,

and then it's ready maybe, you know,
10 months later, and it's a similar

process with building passive income.

You have to sow the seeds and
be willing to do the work.

And you know, it might take you 10 months,
it might take you longer or shorter time

than that, but you just be consistent
in showing up, doing the watering.

Being present, whether that's on
YouTube or social media, or however you

are gonna sell, going and networking
and talking to people in order to

build up that consistent following
and that connection with people

where they want to buy from you.

And the benefits of doing this is
that you have way more flexibility

so you can have time for your family.

Maybe your.

Caring for elderly parents, or
you are caring for your children

or your grandchildren, or maybe
you just want to travel more.

You know, you are an empty nester.

Your kids have left home, you're, they've
gone to university, and it gives you

that flexibility to say, oh, we are
gonna go traveling in the camper van for

three months, or whatever your dream is.

And having that flexibility of not being
chained to your job and your career in

the same way means that you can take off.

You're still gonna work.

Maybe you're gonna, you
know, work from the beach.

You still have to put in the effort
and energy, but you get to live

the kind of life that you want to
live and work in a way that suits

you and your time and your health.

Maybe you feel like you've got health
conditions, but you want to take

your foot off the gas and work in
a way that works more effectively

for you so that you can still live
your life, pursue your passions.

Follow your hobbies and dreams, but
you're still earning money, you're

still working, and it means that you
can top up your pension and create

that side hustle that fits your life.

Because the reality is that people are
buying from creators and not corporations.

The E-business.

Is exploding.

Courses and e-commerce are the way to go.

And in the world that we are living
in right now, everything is shifting,

AI is coming in, things are shifting.

So the sooner that you can build a
personal brand and you know, really

build an audience where people connect
with you, they're looking for human

connection rather than just, um, wanting
to, you know, just work in the same way.

And, you know, you can build
a. A connection, a community,

a membership where people pay
to be part of your community.

There are so many ways that you can
build that connection right now.

And you just have to start, you know,
the one thing I would say to you

right now, if you are 50 something,
is get going, get creating, get

starting because the time is now.
