Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Thursday to you. I am so excited to continue sharing my favourite pieces of unconventional wisdom for you. And Sassy Meg is in the house for this one. So yesterday we were talking about how we tend to live with the voice of this inner critic or inner dream shitter that tells us that we're not good enough, that we're not doing enough, that we're lazy, that we're not as good as other people, etc. Etc. And today I'm here to be a self proclaimed voice of reason and remind you that that voice is absolute bollocks. It is bullshit, and your inner critic is a liar. Here's the thing, because it sounds so much like your voice, it's so easy to accept it as the truth.
But the truth is that voice exists to keep you safe. And it usually pipes up when you're doing something that might be teetering on the edge of your comfort zone. When you're doing something that maybe you're actually meant to be doing, but it's scary. And when you're doing things that maybe you haven't done before or. Or there's an element of uncertainty too, because there's some risk of failure here, or there's some risk of being judged or rejected by others. Now, your inner critic may have good intentions of keeping you safe, but the problem is it will behave like an absolute dick in order to do so. It will find the most tender areas to poke. It knows exactly what buttons to press, and it knows exactly what to say to stop you from doing something that it deems risky, but could actually be something fabulous and could be the work that you're meant to do.
So today I just want to counteract that voice a minute and tell you some actual truths. And the truth is, is that there is plenty of space for you in the world. There is nobody who can do exactly what you do in the way you do it. And that has your fabulously unique combination of skills, strengths, experiences, stories and perspectives. You are somebody who makes a difference, even if you don't know it. Whatever it is you're creating or thinking of bringing to life, there are people that are out there waiting for it and they need your take on it. It doesn't matter whether other people are doing similar things. They need it to come from you.
What you have to say, as cheesy as this sounds, is original because you are an original. And nobody in the world does what you do. You do leave your mark. You do do enough. And you, my dear, are fucking plenty good enough exactly as you are my life motto and the motto around here is that everything changes when you believe you matter. And part of that journey is realizing that your inner dream shitter may be well intentioned, but it's talking bullshit. And part of living a fulfilled, meaningful, wholehearted life goes back to that fabulous saying by Susan Jeffers about feeling the fear and doing it anyway. And I've got a feeling that since you already listened to this, you are somebody who is already doing that.
So keep going, Keep going, despite that voice in your head that tells you you can't do it or questions who you even are to do it in the first place, or makes you wonder whether you have it, or whatever that is to offer to begin with. And instead listen to that smaller, much more quiet voice that sometimes we can only hear when we get really still. The voice that quietly questions that maybe you are actually the person to do this, maybe you can get through this and maybe it's all going to be all right. Listen to that voice instead. She is much wiser and she's led by curiosity, not fear. And I think we will all agree that we could all do with more curiosity and less fear in our lives. So that is my pep talk for you today. I have a feeling that it might be exactly what you needed to hear.
So keep going, keep doing you and know that you are pretty fucking fabulous. I'll see you tomorrow.
