[00:00:59 - 00:01:02] And everyone was like, oh, we don't know. We don't know how we feel about X, Y, and Z.

[00:01:06 - 00:01:09] And nobody listened to me. And now the Odyssey is phenomenal.

[00:01:11 - 00:01:17] When we saw Avatar III in IMAX, which was a horrible watching experience mostly because
[00:01:17 - 00:01:20] we started that movie at like 1130, it was awful.
[00:01:20 - 00:01:24] But the best part of that experience was the seven minute Odyssey prologue we got.
[00:01:24 - 00:01:27] Which was actually the middle of the movie, but that's okay.
[00:01:27 - 00:01:33] It's not like a spoiler. It's like when they sack Troy or at least sneak into Troy.
[00:01:33 - 00:01:37] That seven minutes was incredible. And I was like, this is the movie.
[00:01:37 - 00:01:40] I'm circling on my calendar. I'm so stoked for this.
[00:01:40 - 00:01:43] And then everybody was like, but I don't know about the Odyssey.
[00:01:43 - 00:01:46] And we'll dig into that. We will talk about that here.
[00:01:46 - 00:01:49] But I was like, man, I remember that seven minute prologue was pretty freaking good.
[00:01:49 - 00:01:50] Incredible.
[00:01:50 - 00:01:53] And then I watched the whole almost three hour movie.
[00:01:53 - 00:01:54] Pretty freaking good.
[00:01:54 - 00:02:02] Every single person, every, from freaking Nolan to the PA on set,
[00:02:02 - 00:02:07] delivered on a exponential level compared to any of their peers.
[00:02:07 - 00:02:09] Absolute cinema. This is why we're here.
[00:02:09 - 00:02:12] I have another statement that a lot of people are going to hate.
[00:02:12 - 00:02:13] And I don't even care at this point.
[00:02:13 - 00:02:13] Okay, just say it.
[00:02:13 - 00:02:18] Nolan is the best working director, period, point blank.
[00:02:18 - 00:02:20] This movie cements that.
[00:02:20 - 00:02:22] I can hear, are you missed for others?
[00:02:22 - 00:02:25] But like, he's just at the top of his craft right now.
[00:02:25 - 00:02:27] And I felt that way after Oppenheimer. I did.
[00:02:27 - 00:02:28] Like, I like Oppenheimer.

[00:02:29 - 00:02:30] I know you don't like it as much.

[00:02:31 - 00:02:33] I was like, Nolan is killing it right now.
[00:02:33 - 00:02:34] He needs to keep doing what he's doing.
[00:02:34 - 00:02:36] And then three years later, he kept killing it
[00:02:36 - 00:02:38] and kept doing what he was doing.
[00:02:38 - 00:02:41] I mean, on a technical level, this movie is phenomenal.
[00:02:41 - 00:02:42] This movie is literally groundbreaking.
[00:02:42 - 00:02:43] And we'll get into that in a second.
[00:02:43 - 00:02:48] But I mean, this movie is innovative in the right ways,
[00:02:48 - 00:02:48] I would say.
[00:02:48 - 00:02:49] It's insane.

[00:03:21 - 00:03:24] but one thing that I'm like, I don't know if I like this.
[00:03:24 - 00:03:26] And that we are off our first viewing.

[00:03:36 - 00:03:42] I think, I mean, I have watched probably 30 interviews
[00:03:42 - 00:03:45] at this point, and I'm aware that not everyone has.
[00:03:45 - 00:03:48] So I'm just kind of going to be regurgitating some facts.
[00:03:48 - 00:03:49] Shot entirely on IMAX.
[00:03:49 - 00:03:52] With new IMAX cameras deal there.
[00:03:52 - 00:03:54] So I saw it in IMAX.

[00:04:27 - 00:04:30] and the amount of just like raw filmmaking,
[00:04:30 - 00:04:33] almost guerrilla style that this movie achieves
[00:04:33 - 00:04:38] with massive IMAX cameras that have brand new never
[00:04:38 - 00:04:40] used technology equipped to them.
[00:04:40 - 00:04:43] I mean, there's these freaking giant boxes
[00:04:43 - 00:04:44] that they're lugging around these ships.
[00:04:44 - 00:04:47] I mean, the level of craft this movie achieves in the ocean.
[00:04:47 - 00:04:48] They are on the ocean.
[00:04:48 - 00:04:49] It's crazy.
[00:04:49 - 00:04:52] The level of craft this movie achieves is unbelievable.
[00:04:52 - 00:04:54] And I don't know if, I mean, there
[00:04:54 - 00:04:56] are other movies who have giant levels of craft.
[00:04:56 - 00:04:58] But this is up there with those.
[00:04:58 - 00:05:01] Yeah, the scale and production value of this movie
[00:05:01 - 00:05:01] is incredible.
[00:05:02 - 00:05:04] That alone, if the story was buns,
[00:05:04 - 00:05:06] that is worth the price of admission.
[00:05:06 - 00:05:06] It is, yes.
[00:05:06 - 00:05:08] And Newsflash, story, not buns.

[00:05:09 - 00:05:11] Is it Nolan's best story?

[00:05:19 - 00:05:22] This is, I think, there's a lot around this movie
[00:05:22 - 00:05:25] like, was this, is this worth the hype?
[00:05:25 - 00:05:26] Right.
[00:05:26 - 00:05:28] Does it meet the hype?
[00:05:28 - 00:05:32] So I've been to a lot of movies over the past, you know,
[00:05:32 - 00:05:33] let's say 15 years.
[00:05:33 - 00:05:34] Sure.
[00:05:34 - 00:05:37] Only a handful have people clapped or cheered.
[00:05:37 - 00:05:39] Yep.
[00:05:39 - 00:05:41] I'll list off a few of those.
[00:05:41 - 00:05:43] I think Endgame, Spireman, and Nolan Home.
[00:05:43 - 00:05:46] Those are the two I'm going to vault out there for right now.
[00:05:46 - 00:05:47] I think, I don't know if there's
[00:05:47 - 00:05:49] a lot of others that people have.
[00:05:49 - 00:05:50] And not like at the end of the movie,
[00:05:50 - 00:05:54] oh, the movie is good, like in the movie Ovation.
[00:05:54 - 00:05:57] Those two movies, Endgame, Noah Home,
[00:05:57 - 00:06:02] had decades of filmmaking and characters before them, right?
[00:06:02 - 00:06:05] And so you're kind of like, OK, this is a huge moment.
[00:06:05 - 00:06:07] And I've been with this character for so long.
[00:06:07 - 00:06:10] And the resolution was good, that TBD on that.
[00:06:10 - 00:06:13] But like, there were reasons to clap.
[00:06:13 - 00:06:18] In the Odyssey, by the way, a lot of people in the theater
[00:06:18 - 00:06:20] know virtually nothing about the Odyssey.
[00:06:20 - 00:06:21] True.
[00:06:21 - 00:06:27] There are moments so good after just a three-hour span
[00:06:27 - 00:06:28] that people are cheering.
[00:06:28 - 00:06:29] Yeah.
[00:06:29 - 00:06:29] I'm in the theater.
[00:06:29 - 00:06:31] People are cheering.
[00:06:31 - 00:06:35] That's just, it's so rare.
[00:06:35 - 00:06:37] And people say, oh, well, Endgame did it.
[00:06:37 - 00:06:39] Endgame did it after 20 movies before.
[00:06:39 - 00:06:40] Yeah.
[00:06:40 - 00:06:44] Odyssey did it in three hours.
[00:06:44 - 00:06:45] That's crazy.
[00:06:45 - 00:06:48] I'm like, I can get into a lot.
[00:06:48 - 00:06:50] I am a huge fan of this movie.
[00:06:50 - 00:06:51] Is it movie of the year?
[00:06:51 - 00:06:52] I don't know.
[00:06:52 - 00:06:55] Like, is it the best movie I've seen in theaters?

[00:07:12 - 00:07:16] This is an insane gamble from Warner Brothers.

[00:07:19 - 00:07:22] It's an insane gamble from them, and it's going to pay off.
[00:07:22 - 00:07:26] I mean, there's just so much in this movie that in some ways
[00:07:26 - 00:07:28] maybe shouldn't work, and it does.
[00:07:28 - 00:07:30] Like, there's just, it's so much great.
[00:07:30 - 00:07:32] If you're into movies, if you're not into movies,
[00:07:32 - 00:07:33] just go see it.
[00:07:33 - 00:07:36] Make a decision for yourself on it.

[00:08:19 - 00:08:21] on multiple showings.

[00:10:02 - 00:10:05] Nolan, in all of his Nolan-ness,

[00:10:07 - 00:10:08] Which is awesome.
[00:10:08 - 00:10:09] Which is awesome.
[00:10:09 - 00:10:11] And like it's not the hardest puzzle.
[00:10:11 - 00:10:11] No.
[00:10:11 - 00:10:12] It's not the prestige.
[00:10:12 - 00:10:13] It's not inception.
[00:10:13 - 00:10:15] It's not tenet.
[00:10:15 - 00:10:16] It's for sure not tenet.
[00:10:16 - 00:10:21] But like Odysseus is trying to figure out his own story.
[00:10:21 - 00:10:22] True.
[00:10:22 - 00:10:24] And there's Time Skippage and all the stuff.
[00:10:24 - 00:10:25] What do you think of that, Drew?
[00:10:25 - 00:10:28] I loved it, and here's why.
[00:10:28 - 00:10:30] I loved that.
[00:10:30 - 00:10:33] I mean, there's a lot of themes in this movie.
[00:10:33 - 00:10:35] One of them I would say is storytelling.
[00:10:35 - 00:10:37] Like as an art form.
[00:10:37 - 00:10:38] Yes.
[00:10:38 - 00:10:40] There's obviously the barge.
[00:10:40 - 00:10:45] And like the way Nolan uses his non-linear storytelling,
[00:10:45 - 00:10:49] which he loves so dearly, is through storytelling.
[00:10:49 - 00:10:50] And I thought it was super interesting.
[00:10:50 - 00:10:51] Yes.
[00:10:51 - 00:10:54] It's like when people tell stories, that's when we go back.
[00:10:54 - 00:10:55] And it works.
[00:10:55 - 00:10:56] It doesn't feel like a plot device.
[00:10:56 - 00:10:58] No, I think it works very well.
[00:10:58 - 00:11:01] This is one of the easier Nolan movies to pick up on
[00:11:01 - 00:11:04] and be like, because it's so fluid and you're like, oh,
[00:11:04 - 00:11:06] wait, Anne Hathaway's talking about this event.
[00:11:06 - 00:11:08] OK, I know this happened in the past.
[00:11:08 - 00:11:11] I can track because I'm human and people
[00:11:11 - 00:11:12] have told me stories before.
[00:11:12 - 00:11:13] Yep.
[00:11:13 - 00:11:13] Yep.
[00:11:13 - 00:11:14] I completely agree.
[00:11:14 - 00:11:16] I mean, it's not the craziest puzzle,
[00:11:16 - 00:11:20] but I think it makes the story of Odysseus going back home
[00:11:20 - 00:11:21] a time more interesting.
[00:11:21 - 00:11:23] Because we could just pick up with, oh,
[00:11:23 - 00:11:25] Odysseus is leaving for the Church of War.
[00:11:25 - 00:11:28] And we go linearly, and it just wouldn't work as well.
[00:11:28 - 00:11:28] Agreed.
[00:11:28 - 00:11:30] I mean, it would be great if this movie was made the same way,
[00:11:30 - 00:11:31] but more linear.
[00:11:31 - 00:11:34] But I think it's in the edit, it's better.
[00:11:34 - 00:11:38] So yeah, this is definitely like an edit thing.
[00:11:38 - 00:11:40] Which basically everybody working on this movie
[00:11:40 - 00:11:42] has won an Oscar at this point.
[00:11:42 - 00:11:43] That's true.
[00:11:43 - 00:11:45] So everybody's pretty goaded here,
[00:11:45 - 00:11:47] at least on the technical end.
[00:11:47 - 00:11:49] Not all the actors, but a lot of them have, too.
[00:11:49 - 00:11:51] So I don't know.
