Welcome, dear listeners. Today, we delve into a passage from Proverbs, or Mishlei, written by King Solomon, specifically Proverbs 18:21, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue."
The wisdom carried by this line is profound, and it deeply resonates with our daily lives. The tongue, a small organ, carries immense power. It can build or destroy, depending on how we use it. How often do we say things in anger, frustration, or thoughtlessness that we later regret? The harm inflicted by words can be much more lasting than physical wounds.
On the other hand, the tongue can also bring life. Words of kindness, love, and encouragement can uplift a soul, mend a broken heart, or heal a wounded spirit. The right words at the right time can change a person's life, can change the world.
The great Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, a sage of the second-century, taught, "The world was created by the word of God." Just as God created the world with words, we too create our realities with our words.
Our words shape our relationships, our communities, and our world. They define who we are and what we stand for. Let us strive to use our words wisely, to build and not to destroy, to bring life and not death.
Remember, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." So, we should use our words to spread kindness, love, and positivity.
Thank you for joining us today. May your words always be a source of life, and may you be blessed with wisdom, peace, and joy.
