Have you ever looked around at this season of life and thought, "Okay God... now what?"
Maybe the kids are grown. Maybe your career looks different than it used to. Maybe your body doesn't move the way it did, your role has shifted, or you're just not sure who you're supposed to be anymore now that so much has changed. If you've ever felt unseen, unsure, or like life after 50 was supposed to come with more clarity than it has — you're not alone, and you're in the right place.
What this podcast is about:
Life After 50 is a Christian podcast for Women Over 50 offering weekly conversations on faith, finding God's purpose, moving into this new season with honesty and in the direction, He has for you. Each episode digs into what it really looks like to trust and move with God — not the everything's-fine version of faith, but the honest, real, sometimes-messy kind. We talk about purpose in midlife, identity, waiting on God, trusting Him with what we can't understand, and finding God's direction when the road ahead isn't clear yet.
Why it's for you:
This isn't a podcast about pretending you have it all figured out. It's for the woman who's tired of performing "okay" and ready to bring her real questions, real doubts, and real heart to God. Whether you're an empty nester, navigating retirement, or simply asking "what's my purpose or what's the next step Lord" this show was made with you in mind. You're not behind. You're not forgotten. And you're definitely not the only one still asking these questions.
How it will help you:
Every episode gives you more than encouragement — it gives you practical, faith-based steps for women to actually walk away with. Real ways to bring honest feelings to God. Scripture for hard seasons and reminders of what you know to be true about Him, even when circumstances say otherwise. And tangible tools for trusting God through uncertainty and finding hope in midlife. This is a space to process, grow, and be reminded that this season — however uncertain it feels right now — still has purpose.
So, if you're a woman ready to stop pretending, start trusting, and discover God's calling for this new season... pull up a seat. Let's walk through this together.
(INTRO)
Welcome back to the show. I'm so glad you're here.
If this is your first time joining me, we're doing one thing — discovering God's direction for you in this new season. Not the season you used to be in. Not the season you thought you'd be in. The one you're actually in right now.
And today's episode is a personal one. I'm opening up about something I've carried for a long time, something I don't think I've ever said out loud on this show before. So, grab your coffee, get comfortable, and let's get into it.

Let me tell you a secret. Are you ready for it?
I have struggled — for most of my Christian life — to obey God. And I want to be really clear about something: it wasn't because I didn't want to. It's because every single time God asked me to do something, sin was right there too. Showing up uninvited. Making its case.
And if you're in this new season with me — you know the one, where you've got more life behind you than ahead of you, where the kids are grown, or the career has shifted, or you're just finally asking "okay God, now what?" — here's what I've noticed: struggle doesn't retire when you turn 50. It just gets quieter to hide, and louder to notice. When your days were full of raising kids or building a career, you didn't always have the space to sit with that tug-of-war between what God was asking and what you actually did. Now you do. This season hands you the quiet — and in that quiet, the struggle you've had all along finally gets to surface.
Here's the thing nobody tells you: just because you've confessed Jesus as Lord of your life doesn't mean the enemy packs up and leaves. He doesn't stop tempting you just because you got saved, and he definitely doesn't stop just because you've lived a few more decades. If anything, that's when he pays closer attention.
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL — AND IT'S BIBLICAL:
Paul talks about this in Romans chapter 7, and honestly, reading it felt like someone had been in my head. He says sin takes God's good commands and twists them for its own purposes. Then he goes even further — he says the problem was never with God's law. The law is good. Spiritual. The problem was him. Being human. Being, in his words, a slave to sin.
And he says something that I think we've all felt: I don't understand myself. I want to do what's right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate.
If you've ever known exactly what the right thing was and still didn't do it — that's not you being a bad Christian. That's just... being human. It's sin living in you doing the pulling.
Our sinful nature is what causes us to disobey God and push back against the Holy Spirit's guidance. Flesh wants what it wants, right now, regardless of what God is asking. And that's where the tug-of-war lives — to do or not to do the will of God.
SO — DOES THAT MAKE ME WISE, OR A FOOL?
Now here's a question I had to sit with: does struggling like this make me wise, or does it make me a fool?
Let's talk about wisdom for a second — because I don't think most of us actually know what it means. Wisdom isn't just knowing facts. It's the practical ability to tell right from wrong and actually apply God's truth to your everyday life. It's living a godly, humble life that honors Him — not just being able to quote a verse.
Proverbs 1:7 says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That means wisdom doesn't start with information — it starts with a deep, respectful awe of God and a willingness to submit to His authority.
And if you're wondering how you even get wisdom in the first place — James 1:5 gives you the answer. Ask. God is generous. He'll give it to you, and He's not going to scold you for asking.
Now compare that to what foolishness looks like. A foolish person relies on quick fixes and assumes they're always right. They're emotionally driven, easily provoked, reckless. They speak before they think. And when things go wrong? They blame-shift. They point fingers instead of taking responsibility.
I know people who catch on to things faster than others — and honestly, that's not always about intelligence. A lot of it is submission. A lot of it is asking.
THE TURNING POINT:
For a long time, I used to ask God, "Why me? Why is this my burden? The thorn in my side. Why can't I get this right?" I was putting all this pressure on myself to perform — to earn it, to fix it, to prove something. And maybe you've asked that too, in this new season — "why am I still stuck here? Why haven't I moved forward yet?"
But you know what I found out?
Jesus already took all of that pressure onto Himself at the cross. I don't need to perform something He already finished. Past tense. Done.
Once that clicked for me, I started seeing those old "why can't I get this right" thoughts differently — as distractions. Anything that pulls your eyes off Jesus, the enemy will absolutely use.
Psalm 62, verses 5 through 8, says it better than I ever could: Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress; I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
That's it. That's the whole shift — from trying to earn my footing to just resting in His.
HOW I ACTUALLY FIGHT NOW:
So, what do I do instead? I learned to rest in His presence. To wait to hear from Him. To fast, to pray, to think on His word and to move accordingly. And on the days when I really feel the pressure creeping in, I speak the Word out loud — on purpose. Loud enough for the devil to hear it, and loud enough for me to hear it too. Because faith comes by hearing — and hearing the Word.
There have been days where it felt like the whole day was just wrong thoughts trying to invade my mind, one after another, and I just kept hitting back with God's Word. Looking back, I think the enemy was raising the stakes that day. I used to wonder, "why am I talking so much today?” but that wasn't random. That was warfare. That was a battle for my mind.
YOU'RE MORE THAN A CONQUEROR:
If you find yourself battling something right now — for me it was obedience, listening to God — I need you to know you are more than a conqueror in Christ. Through Him, you can do all things. You are a world-overcomer in Christ. You're on a battlefield, yes, but you're fighting the good fight of faith.
It took me a long time to realize that in Christ, I already had the victory over the struggle. I just didn't see it yet.
And I want to be honest with you — I'm not saying I've mastered this. No, I still have mistakes. I still have shortcomings. But I'm still a winner, not because of what I've done, but because of what Jesus has already done. And you know what? You are too.
TO YOU, LISTENING:
Romans 3:23-24 puts it plainly: everyone has sinned, we all fall short of God's glorious standard. And yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did it through Christ Jesus, who freed us from the penalty for our sins.
Listen, you're carrying pressure today that was never yours to carry — that's why I'm doing this. Discovering God's direction in this new season doesn't start with you finally getting it all right. It starts with laying down the pressure and letting Him lead. I want you to know you're not walking through this alone, and whatever you're wrestling with, I'm here to walk through it with you.
