Science-based aromatherapy you can actually use, from Certified Aromatherapists. Each episode is a recording of one of our live classes — hands-on sessions where we blend in real time, share recipes to nourish your skin, home, and spirit, and answer your questions along the way. Whether you're brand new to essential oils or deepening a practice you love, you'll come away with practical recipes and the confidence to make them your own.
Hello there and welcome. Put that right there. Put that right there. You know, nothing like a hot water bath to kick off a live workshop. My name's Jenny and I'm Karen, and today is all about linalyl acetate, and we're excited to introduce you to this key chemical component and how it can really enlighten our practice of aromatherapy. So welcome. This is going to also sound like we're presenting from a rocket ship. Oh, you go ahead. I'm going to go find— you've got some strategies. I have some strategies.
I'll go ahead. So I just asked over in the Natural Living Lab, what are you diffusing today? We are going over some complex concepts and ideas inside of our Natural Living Lab because chemistry is such a wonderful way to approach blending and getting those results from the blends that you're looking to get results from, right? Um, we also wanna just celebrate, um, what's going on in our days in terms of what oils we're drawn to because we don't wanna forget the heart and the art of essential oil work.
So I asked over in the Natural Living Lab about a couple of hours ago exactly, What do you have going on in your diffuser? What do you have going on on your workshop? What are you drawn to today? We have almost 200 interactions over there on that post, and it's been just so fun to see the enthusiasm coming in in terms of what's resonating with you today. Oh, look at this. Karen has a tip for us. That was just a canning jar top, and it stops the rattle. So, and that doesn't matter as much in your own kitchen, or maybe it does, but it's so much quieter.
So that you can hear everything we're talking about. Put a little more water in because it, it lifted up the container. I love it. So we are getting right in with our double boiler system here because we want to get our carrier products melting. This we're making a whipped body butter today, which is very exciting, and it also takes a little bit more time to formulate. So we want to get this recipe going so we have an entire hour to dedicate to learning, to blending, to formulating, to listening to you, to getting to your questions.
So we are, um, right on it. A couple of things, of course I want to go over before we head over to my computer. I just need to close out a couple of things and open a couple of things and we'll be good to go. I've got my slides up. There we are. Okay. Grabbing the comments and you're grabbing the comments. Thank you for doing that. So, um, let's do a big thank you to our 7-day leaderboard prize. Thank You gift winners. These folks are in there chit-chatting, starting conversations, just really going above and beyond with creating this incredible community.
Of course, even if you're in there for an hour or 3 hours a week or 5 minutes a week, we really appreciate the time that you're putting into the community. But a special thank you inside of the Natural Living Lab for Donna, Angie, Carrie, Mia, Joanna, Teresa, Gabriella, Denise, Wendy, and Kathy. Thank you so much. All of you are getting $25 gift cards to go shop at Aromatics International. So thank you so much. We don't want to leave out our Natural Living Club folks. Even though a lot of discussion is happening inside of the Natural Living Lab and we are in there learning, we have vibrant conversations happening over in the Natural Living Club as well.
So let's go ahead and pop in our 7-day leaderboards for the Natural Living Club. This is Auntie Donna, Richa, Angie, Joanna, Carrie, Chris, Mia, Wendy, and Catherine. Thank you so much again for all of your efforts getting in there, encouraging, starting conversations, asking questions. We really appreciate it. So all of you are also getting $25 gift cards to go shop at Aromatics International. That's very cool. That is very cool, right? So thank you again so much. We'll be doing another 7-day, uh, leader, uh, prize giveaway. The reason we're doing 7 days, we want anyone to be able to pop in, whether you're joining the community today or tomorrow, and get in there and engage and have an opportunity to get the gift card.
So that's why we're doing our 7-day leaderboards. What a great way to get your supplies. I know, right? And a lot of folks, if you're inside of the Natural Living Club and the Natural Living Lab are getting $50 a week, which is pretty cool, which is a big— we thank you for all of your efforts. It's well worth it. All right, so I am going to go over into our comments, and if you could just pop in if you either would like to share again what you put into the Natural Living Lab, what oil or what blend is resonating for you either in your diffuser blend. For me, it was lime this morning.
I love lime so much, as do so many of our members, especially Angie. And we are, um, I want to know what's resonating with you. Lime just felt bright and sunny even though we're talking linalyl acetate. I was just back on D-Limonene, also excited to talk about her linalyl acetate-rich oils. So if you want to pop in either what you posted in the Natural Living Lab or maybe something different into the comments, we would love that. And if you could subscribe to the channel where you're watching right now and like this video, it just helps us hit discovery, which means that when we're live and people are liking and commenting, it means that we are able to find folks who have never heard of our
channel or video before, and it just helps us get the message out about how these essential oils can really enrich our lives. So we would love it if you could do that for us to help get the word out that we're live and that it's— we're ready to welcome brand new people to our group. Well, you can see I'm busy as a little beaver over here. I love it so much. All right, so we are going to pop over to our slides. Now, the last two presentations, we've had way more slides than time, so we've really pared down the slides and we'll try to go through every slide.
But we also want to leave room for real in-the-moment learning, tangents, conversation, questions, etc. So, um, we're going to have a great time together. Excellent. Today is all about linalyl acetate. This is the release, the deep exhale. This is our live workshop that pairs with Lesson 3, our Q&A. For Lesson 3 will be coming this coming Monday at 11:00 AM Mountain Time, 1:00 PM Eastern Time. Beautiful slides. Well, thank you.
So before we begin, just a reminder. So learning, that is what learning is. You suddenly understand something you've understood all your life, but in a new way. And this chemical component, linalyl acetate, is a big part of our lavender essential oil chemistry. And many of you have been using lavender and been reaching for lavender, growing lavender, for decades, right? So what learning is, is taking something you already know well or something new and going more in depth with it over a period of time, and that's the goal of this 6-week chemistry series.
And that's a great goal. I know, I love it. Um, so we would love to know in the chat as well, um, if this is your very first time with us, if you could pop in a 1. If you're new to the 6-week chemistry series, you're new to us, you're just finding us, pop in a 2. And if you've been here a while, thank you so much for, for being here. Pop in a 3. We'd love to know your background. It also lets you in the chat see who else is new today, who else is new to the series and who else has been here for a long time so you can start to get to know each other even more. A great, um, bonus to this whole experience is really developing and cultivating friendships over inside of the art communities, which become real deep, uh, lifelong friendships.
It's a really beautiful community to be a part of. We've got some beautiful blends. Mandarin and vetiver. How beautiful. I love it. Bergamot Mint, different than Bergamot, that's in the mint family. Bergamot Mint and Rosalina. Turn this down. Uplift and Reset inhaler from last week, perfect. Apply on a kink on the neck. Oh no, absolutely, that's perfect for that. Doing perfect things with that. Yeah. So, all right, well, we've got several in here.
Petitgrain, whoops, that, that kind of flipped away from me there. But there was a good one with Pettigrain. And let's see here. Beautiful aromas going throughout the house. All right. And then look at all these. We've got folks who've been here for a long time. A lot of 3s are coming in, a lot of 2s and a lot of 1s. And we've got a wide variety. And I love that overwhelmingly we've got a lot of 3s, which means if you're a 1 or a 2, Pay attention to these 3s because a lot of times they're in our certification program.
They really know what they're talking about. They've been out there practicing, um, with clients. They've been out there doing really good work. And so they're great folks to connect with inside of our communities, which is great, which is wonderful. Mm-hmm. Okay. So I'm gonna skip around a little bit. We are going to come back to these slides here, but I wanna go to our Release and Let Go Body Butter. Since we have our setup going here, we want to get our shea butter and our cocoa butter melting so we have enough time.
Reach over you and grab this weight scale because we need 2 ounces, 56 grams of shea butter that will get melting, and then you can continue on. That's a great idea. Yes. Then we could go back and, uh, because we have our homework for Lesson 2. We have our homework winners randomly selected. Thymely is actually able to randomly select for me, and I asked Timely to randomly select, and it did. Devin, can you grab a little bowl that I can put on here to, to weigh the shea butter?
Thank you, Devin. Little bowl, perfect. Oh, that's great, that's a perfect little bowl. All right, so I'm gonna put this on here and tare. Remember to tare your weight scale. This is our Aromahead Institute weight scale. They are available, and it's 2 oz or 56g of shea butter. It's going to make a beautiful— and the reason why we're doing this early is because we want to melt it and then put it in the freezer for just a little bit. We'll tell you why we put it in the freezer when we get to that part.
Okay, we're getting there. That's 27g. This is going to make, I believe it's 3 oz. Yep, it's going to make 3 ounces. And then we have our 3 ounces of carrier, our shea butter, cocoa butter, and sweet almond oil. And then we'll be layering in lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, Bergamot Mint, and Petitgrain into the blend. Now shea butter— there's no beeswax in this blend, so this is going to go quite quickly. Shea butter melts very easily.
All right, that's 55. We'll get one more little gram in there. Because again, we're looking for the 56 grams. There we go. All right, and we're going to pop it directly into our hot water bath. Now, this does not have any water inside of the double boiler. This is a Pyrex dish. We want to keep it nice and dry inside, so there's no water in here, and then it will last for a very long time. And then we're going to let it sit there and melt. And since it melts so quickly, I'm going to go ahead and put the almond and sweet almond oil in there as well.
And that calls for— oh, not sweet almond oil. Well, sweet almond comes next. Cocoa butter and sweet almond oil. So 30 mL of our sweet almond oil and 28 grams of our cocoa butter, which should be right there. Yeah, right. We have our— the recommended supply kit that pairs with our chemistry series to the left of where we're presenting. So we have our supplies ready to go. But of course, you're able to make substitution. When it comes to the essential oils you're using, when it— maybe you have other oils that are rich in linalyl acetate that you'd like to substitute in.
If you are planning on making this blend and you are doing substitutions, we would love to know about it. Just pop it into the chat. It might inspire someone else with an idea. Make sure that I'm tared again, and we're going to put in exactly 28 grams, which is 1 ounce. I just want you to see how much 28 grams is. It's about that much. And we'll put that right into the shea butter. Usually I would put the cocoa butter in first and then the shea butter, but I put it all in at once for time purposes.
And if you don't have a double boiler like this, you can use a little tea warmer. Uh-huh. It'll take a little bit longer because this is 3 ounces, but it does work. Microwave. I knowe people do put this in the microwave, but no one's going to say anything if you do. So my personal preference is not to use the microwave to melt these beautiful butters. I don't want any kind of therapeutic properties to escape. But do the best. It's better to have the butter than not have the butter. And every now and then I will pop it in the microwave. I'm right now in a battle with my, uh, Green Clay Coconut Deodorant.
I made it after our live event last week because I was out of deodorant, and that recipe is in the Natural Living Club if you're interested it's— we've been using this deodorant forever. I'll let you pop that in and then I'll keep telling my deodorant story. This is 1 fluid ounce or 30 mL. Now I don't have a 30 mL, uh, graduate— graduated cylinder, so I'm going to do 28 grams, uh, on here. That's typically what it is when you measure by grams. So 28 grams.
24, 28. What a great way to start off my day. I love it, making a body butter. All right, I'm going to put this directly in. We're almost melted already. Uh-huh. And then as soon as this is done being melted, Devin's going to go pop it into the freezer for us. And then when it's done, we'll continue. We're gonna whip it up just like frosting, and it's a really fun process. If you've not seen a whipped body butter, it's a lot of fun. So if this is your first time making this, what you want to make sure is you put all of the hard butters in here, all of the carriers in here, let it melt.
Usually go from the hardest to the softest. We don't add our essential oils quite yet, not until it comes and actually we're going to put it in before we put it in the freezer. Perfect, I like that. And then it's all ready to whip when it comes back. Perfect. All right, well, I'm just waiting for a minute here and then— well, I was telling them every now and then I will cheat. So with my green clay deodorant, I blended more after our event last week because I'm out of deodorant. I had it in my car and did some errands.
It got so liquid, just completely liquid. When it when that happens to me, um, it's kind of hard to get everything to mix up again. Mine, so I will Karen won't, but I will zap it in the microwave for 15 seconds and re-stir it all up, and then I'm usually good to go. Okay, but you could easily do it. No judgment here. It's okay if there's a little bit. I mean, it's always better to avoid— to keep everything as pure as possible. It's always good. The reason why we put this in the freezer for 20-30 minutes is so that it will solidify all at the same time.
It cools down at the same time, and we avoid that graininess that can happen after a day or two once it has cooled down. Shea butter, with all the different lipids that are in there, it'll cool down a little bit at different paces and cause some graininess. This stops that. I love that. That's a really important tip because it's never fun unless you just love that texture to have the grainy— it's of course not harmful, it's just a texture preference.
Go ahead and turn that off. Okay. And just one little thing in there, almost ready to melt. It'll melt very easily without any more heat at all. Would you mind just reaching over and waking your computer back up? That's how I see the comments. Ah, wake up, Susan! And yes, good morning everyone. Good morning, Joyce. We listen and we don't judge. There you go. Now this is hot, so I'm actually not going to hand it quite off to Devin.
I'm going to take it. Okay, that sounds good. We've got a bunch of towels over here because when I take this out— did you want to put the oils in next? Yes, I'll take this off the heat first. I see, I see. Like this, I'm going to set this right here. Okay. And then I'm going to remove this so it's out of danger. We're out of danger. Yes, we're out of danger.
Well, while Karen is doing that, um, those of you who are live with us today, um, I want to tell you about your free gift. So we've been doing this, we've been having a lot of fun. It's just an encouragement to come live because when you're here live, there's a magic about it, you're able to interact with each other in the comments. It's just a more lively experience, even though of course we do offer replays. Thank you so much. So our free gift today is a pack of stir rods, and I believe there are 12 in this particular pack.
And these stir rods are so helpful when you are making your blends. They're really easy to wash, and they're really just— when you have a pack of You're usually set for quite a while. So that is a free gift to anyone who's here live. We have a special link that we'll put into the chat. How you claim your free gift from us at aromatics.com is you click that link and then that triggers the flow so that you're able to get— bless you— you're able to get and claim your free 12-pack of glass stir rods for your aromatherapy blending in your workshop.
There's no minimum order to claim your gift, but you do need to place some order, whether it's $5. Or $50, place some order and click that link, and we will make sure to put the glass stir rods. It'll show up in your account. It'll be special. It'll be like free gift or some indicator that you've done it successfully and that it's in your account. Those of you who are in our Natural Living Club or Natural Living Lab, if you spend over $40, you'll also get a 5ml, a free 5ml of our Clary Sage essential oil, which is rich in the linalyl acetate and a great substitution for many of these recipes.
So those are your gifts that I wanted to mention, um, today as we are continuing to blend and make this recipe. I wanted you to know, since we are about to use a glass stir rod, that you are able to get free glass stir rods. All right, so this is all about linalyl acetate, which you're going to find out more about in just a moment. But for now, we're putting 17 drops of our lavender, which is our which is our Lavandula angustifolia.
Yes. Oh, that's all right, that's all right, we'll grab that. I'll grab that. I'm just gonna sneak down here and grab that. Of bergamot. This is not bergamot, this is bergamot mint in the mint family. It's beautiful, it's full of esters as well. So the lavender and the bergamot mint together complement one another. 15 drops. That lid got such a good roll, it is so far away. We're gonna, we're gonna grab that after we're done.
And then last is 8 drops of, um, petitgrain, or petitgrain. And we're going to put the 8 drops in. Some of you think, ah, it's a little bit too green smelling for me. It is a beautiful oil in the linalyl acetate family. You can easily substitute your Clary Sage for it or another oil that has, uh, linalool acetate, but tucked in, it's just perfect. And there's 8 drops, so there's a lot less drops.
And Karen's about to talk a lot about Petitgrain tomorrow. If you're in our Thriving Aromatherapist professional community, um, our workshop is tomorrow. Karen's, uh, 90-minute workshop is tomorrow, so you're going to want to come to see a special perfume for that. If you're in the Thriving membership, Petitgrain is tomorrow. If you'd like to join, and this isn't necessarily, we don't necessarily have membership open, but we are, because we've been talking about Thrive, we've been talking about Thymely Premium. If you are interested in joining Thrive, we're able to sneak you in.
Just email team@aromahead.com, and Mina has a special link to sneak folks in since we are not officially in an open membership period. And you notice I'm really stirring this a lot. I want all those oils incorporated into every little section, every little bit of my carrier oils that I've just melted. And you're going to see why we're using such a large container, because we're going to whip it and it's going to grow. Yeah, in here, just much like whipped cream if you're using— if you're doing that, or it's, it's very similar, which is a lot of fun.
Fun, especially fun to do with kids if you're still looking for summer activities. This is, this is cool enough for Devin now. This is cool enough for Devin. I'm going to move to the side. Thank you. Let's not forget that the cap— Devin won't forget. The cap rolled way back behind this plant here. I have it now. Oh, you found it for you. Nothing like crawling around on the floor during a live event to set the tone.
Well, you know, this is a very action-based— one thing off your cheek. Got it. Thank you. A very action-based presentation. It's an action-based presentation. Aromatherapy in action. And I, I know, I think we need to set your computer screen so it just always stays— no, I keep trying to do that. I keep, wanting to see the comments over here. I think it smells really strong of cocoa in here. Oh, there you go. I love that comment, Devin. He's, he's saying it smells really strong of cocoa in here because of the cocoa butter, which is wonderful. It smells chocolatey.
Which smells chocolatey. That's where chocolate comes from. There you go. Okay, so let's go back to the beginning of our slides. 2 ounces of shea butter before Jenny keeps going, which is 56 grams. There you go. And yes, neroli petitgrain will work. Work beautifully. A couple of tips, um, the recipe that we are blending today, we're about to do the whipped body butter, you can find that in Lesson 3 inside of the Natural Living Club classroom, the recipe section. There's also a master PDF with all the supplies you need, all of the recipes for all 6 lessons that I put in Lesson 0 inside of the club.
One more clarification here as well, The instructions do say to freeze it and then put in your essential oils, and you can absolutely do that way. You'll see that it comes back solid during the process of whipping. You could add them in during that time. I like to add them in first so that they're well incorporated, but sometimes we make, you know, we'll separate the oil, the carrier, out and make different aromas. Well, there you go, and then you would want to do that way. So either way works.
Yes. And it just is the way I wrote the directions, so I could easily go in and change it too if we want to. But again, either way works. So typically I would melt the cocoa butter, I would then put in the shea butter, and that melts very quickly, and then I would put in my sweet almond oil. So it all happened very quickly. It doesn't take much to melt. If there's beeswax in here, it takes a little bit longer to melt. And then I'm really careful with putting in those delicate oils.
Mm-hmm. Thank you. Okay, and we'll be able to talk more about the recipe too when we circle back to it. So let's head over to my slides, our slides over here. So, if you have joined us before, you were able to pop in your 1, 2, or 3. Let us know if you're a first time here. If this is your first event, welcome. You found your new aromatherapy community. We're so happy that you're here. If you're new to this series, we're so excited that you are looking forward to learning more about the science of essential oil work. If you've been here a while, thank you so much for just helping us create such an incredible community.
Is there someone— and you can do a pseudonym, or you can say a partner or a child. You don't have to name anyone specifically, or you can. Who in your life has a really hard time putting the day down? Maybe that's yourself. That was me last night. I had a hard time just falling asleep. Suddenly I was wide awake at 10:00 3 o'clock wide awake. So that was me. I had a hard time putting the day down yesterday. So who is one person in your life who just can't put the day down?
Pop that name or pseudonym or fake name, whatever, into the chat if you'd like to keep their identity a secret, which is perfectly acceptable, or just put their real name in there. They won't— probably won't ever know. I did make this as a kid. This is my very own potholder. I love it. 5-year-old. Well, there you go. Isn't that cool? Tell Roscoe to step it up. I know, he's turning 5 tomorrow and he is so talented. He doesn't need to step it up. He's doing great. I can't wait to celebrate.
He's my nephew, Karen's grandson. All right, so again, today's live gift, 12 glass stir rods free with any order, no minimum. If you would like to place an order of $40, you'll also get a free 5ml clary sage as long as you're in our Natural Living Club. Our Natural Living Lab. We are excited to offer those free things to you. Someone in the community posted that a lot of her oils are expired and she's wanting to add more fresh oils back into her, onto her workbench.
And one way we want— this is why we do the free gift every week, or both, we do two free gifts every week to just help you to jump start that process of either adding in a new or refreshing your supply collection. So there you go. Congratulations to our 3 winners. I chose them and added this slide. I didn't choose them, Thymely randomly chose them for me, which is pretty cool. We have a version of Thymely that we're able to use when we're creating content, and Thymely went through that post and randomly selected 3 winners.
So congratulations to Wendelin W. Mia K and Donna K. Each one of you are getting a $50 gift card for doing your homework and popping it into Lesson 3. We will be doing the same thing for Lesson 4. So congratulations to the 3 of you, and thank you to everyone who did their homework. We had hundreds of homework submissions come in, and so we are just so excited to see what you're blending and what's really resonating with you. Lesson 4 will also have a homework giveaway. I'll be popping that post in this afternoon, and the— there's a specific course that pairs really well with Lesson 4.
I'll tell you about what that prize will be when we are— when we get to that slide in just a little bit. I love that you did that with that slide, put all— put the names up there, because sometimes it goes by so quickly. It's like, wait, wait, did I hear my name? Well, I know, that way it's in the slide. I thought that too. So this morning, as I was interacting and chit-chatting away, I was like, Thymely, please review this post and choose randomly— choose 3 winners And I was wondering what Thymely would do, and Thymely said yes and did. Absolutely. And then I popped this slide into our slide deck so then everyone knows.
Um, I'll also tag, uh, Wendelin, Mia, and Donna. I'll tag you so that you get the— you might not be here. Congratulations later if you are finding out about it later. Um, all right, so we are going to continue on. If lavender has ever felt like a long, slow exhale, you've already met linalyl acetate. It's one of the other components that's rich in Lavandula angustifolia specifically and our other lavenders. We looked at linalool, which is, lavender has a significant amount of linolel from Lesson 1.
Now we're in Lesson 3 and lavender also has a significant amount of linalyl acetate. So you can see why lavender has that reputation of being so calming, so grounding, and so uplifting. Yeah, there's a reason for that. There's a reason for that. There's a chemical reason for that. Two strong components to really help with that. I'm just going to wake your computer up again. I'll stop mentioning and I'll just reach over and— I just like to see an eye in the comments. There we go. Okay, Donna's like, yes! Okay, good. Donna's here and got her, her $50 gift card. So just email team@aromatics.com anytime you have a question about essential oil products.
That's Aromatics. Anytime you have a question about essential oil aromatherapy education, that's Aroma ahead. And this is our community to get in there and learn about both of those things, right? Right. Okay, so linalyl acetate is just like linalool with the acetate piece, um, clicked on. So, this is where in the ester family, the, uh, YL plus ATE equals our linalyl acetate. So it's linalool, right?
Joined with acetic acid. So that's where the linolel acetate comes from. And that's a really great way to see if it's a, if it's an ester, is does it end with that -ATE? There you go. So if you've popped in someone who just has a really hard time letting the day go, again, that was me last night, then you will want to really keep this particular molecule in mind and reach for oils that are rich in linalyl acetate.
All right, ready for our true or false question? Yeah. True or false, pop a T or an F in the chat. On a lavender GCMS report, Lavandula angustifolia, remember there are over 400 types of lavender and over 40 are often distilled, so you want to make sure that you're looking at the Latin name, looking at the specific, so the Lavandula is the genus and then the species it's either angustifolia, latifolia. That tells you the specific species of lavender, and that species can vary.
The GCMS reports can vary. So when we're talking about lavender, it's typically the Lavandula angustifolia unless otherwise noted. So on a lavender GCMS report, linalool is always the biggest number. True or false? True or false? So I asked for feedback on your workbook if it's too much in your workbook that pairs with each lesson, if it was overwhelming or we needed more information. Everyone is seeming to enjoy the amount of content in the workbook. So, also in that post, I just asked for feedback.
If you didn't have a chance to weigh in, no problem. It was just— I just was working on the workbooks and I was like, "Is there— is this meeting the needs of the group?" So I asked, did an informal poll. A lot of members said they would like even more time to go through the lessons before our live workshop, So I decided to go ahead and start opening each lesson on Saturday mornings instead of the following Tuesday. So you'll have 2 full weekends on 1 lesson. So you'll have 1 weekend, it opens on Saturday, we'll have our Q&A for the previous lesson, and then we'll have our workshop, um, and then our Q&A.
So you'll have 2 weekends to go through the content. And, um, we just— again, I love that input and feedback because it's summer in our hemisphere, lots going on. And so if you would like more time to go through each lesson, we're happy to do so. Everyone so far has been doing their homework. Oh good, I love it, I love it. Thank you so much. Okay, so in your kit, you— here is your Linalyl acetate lineup. So remember, on any order over $40, we're giving you a free 5ml Clary Sage.
And as you can see on the current batch that we have over at aromatics.com, batch CLS112. There is 72.16% linalyl acetate, which is major. It's major. If you don't have Clary Sage and you want to have a significant component of your linalyl acetate, don't forget you have Petitgrain, you've got Lavender Cashmere, you have Lavandula angustifolia, you have Bergamot Mint, a little bit in Cardamom
and see, you can see just a little bit in Blood Orange. Mm-hmm, that's a great chart. The percentages over there, Clary Sage, 71% of the linalyl acetate, which is a very large percentage for these beautiful, gentle components. I love it. So every week our team sits down and decides on both the free, uh, live attendee gift, which is the glass stir rods, and which free product we should offer to our Natural Living Club and Natural Living Lab members.
So if you have any feedback for us around the free gifts and what else you'd like to see, you can also let us know in the chat. As you can see, we're on an accessories train with our free live attendee gifts. If you want to weigh in, feel free, because we're always looking for good ideas. All right, everyone is really enjoying that you opened up early for the homework. Well, there you go, and that's the feedback we're wanting. Well, that's the feed, because this is again your 6-week series. I want you to get the most that you can out of it, and so any, any feedback is welcome.
Even if we're not able to accommodate, we still want to know what is on your wish list. And here is, um, the answer to the true and false question is false. So in your kit, the lavender linalyl acetate reads at 34.86%, and the linalool reads at 26%. So the ester leads the lavender— or the linalyl acetate leads. So many of us assume that the linalool tops every lavender report, but the fun part is that the two can trade places batch to batch depending on growing season, depending on plants, growing region.
So it's really important to pay attention to that if you're wanting to do that precise blending. Yes, absolutely. Yes. Okay, so this is the body butter, uh, whipped body butter, the Release and Let Go Body Butter that we are blending. It's high in the linalyl acetate, which is high in the Lavandula angustifolia, your Bergamot Mint, and your Petitgrain. So it really does that release and let go body butter, which I'm absolutely going to use tonight. Absolutely.
So I can release and let the day go. Sometimes I can't sleep because I'm so excited. We should probably check that about what's happening in our community. To make sure it doesn't get too over frozen. All right, so let's keep going. So we are going to, when it arrives, um, whip it until it looks like clouds. And I sent Devin on an errand, so now they're not seeing your slides, but he'll be back in just a second. And we don't actually need to get to the slides because we are still liquid.
We're still liquid, which is fine. So let's keep going to, 11 properties from our linalyl acetate. So these are just 6 examples. So linalyl acetate is so good for that calming, that release, but it also does so many other things. That was me cueing Karen in. What else does it do? It provides that antispasmodic impact. So if you are having really tight muscles or you're having a spasm.
That linalyl acetate is one of the components that can really help ease muscle spasms. And that is probably the number one therapeutic property of our, of our esters. Yes. Is think about how calming it is to your, to your emotional, to your feelings, to how your day is going, how it just kind of brings down that energy. It does the same thing with your muscles, right? Tense, tight muscles. And I keep a blend beside my bed, actually, because I do get muscle cramps at night.
Yeah. And not all the time, but sometimes. And when it does, there I— you know, when you try to walk it out and it's not working, I put this on and it works within minutes. I love that. I know Karen will tell me, not often, but every now and then I had to reach for Clary Sage I had to put it on because I was having a muscle spasm. And it all, my blend always has the esters in it as well. It has, you know, our Roman Chamomile, it may have Clary Sage in it, Sweet Marjoram, oils that will just kind of help to release.
Yes, exactly. And interestingly enough, Clary Sage often grows in the same region as lavender is growing, even if it's a different country, because it has a, you know, a region that it typically grows in, and they typically grow beside each other, and they're both purple, which is just a fun random fact. Whoops. It's also analgesic, anti-inflammatory, very sedative, antimicrobial or antibacterial. It's an immunostimulant. It's an antioxidant. It's a vasorelaxant?
How do you say that? Vasorelaxant. I read it too quickly. That's a relaxant. Yes, vasorelaxant is what I wanted to say. That is how you say it correctly. Antitumoral. Here, right here. Karen snuck some words in on me, which is great. Antitumoral. Antitumoral. Thank you so much. On the list from our laboratory research, we wanted to just make sure that you knew that it had these other properties, not just the one function we're looking at for rest and release.
It has all of these other, um, these other factions as well. When we say antitumoral, these are studies that have been done on animals typically. And they're not typically human tests that are done, but that is one of the properties. And it's got a lot of good things in store. And and more and more studies are being funded. Specifically, Jesse Hawkins does all kinds of incredible work around essential oil research, and she's often presenting at different conferences, and we love donating oils to her to do her research.
And more and more studies are being funded, human-based studies. And so it's an exciting time to be confirming all of the studies that have taken place, and even more are coming out, which is, which is important. Well, one thing I will say is we help the oil along with what we want it to do. So what I started doing, my leg cramps, my calf cramps were getting worse and worse at 3 o'clock in the morning, you know, 3:30 in the morning. So I started doing something my son said, something that clicked.
Why haven't I been doing this? So I make sure that I really stretch before I go to bed, stretch out those muscles. And then they're a lot less significant, and the blend, I rarely have to reach for that blend. So we help our bodies along, the essential oils will help assist us with that, but you know, do what you can. You know, stretch. What we'll do, and I'm gonna make a note in my mind, we'll pop in Karen's Restless Leg Cramp Relief blend inside of the Natural Living Club and post that.
That after we're done with our event today. Mm-hmm. Hops is another oil I love to put in my, my blends. I love it. Yeah. And if you have Thymely Premium, you can also ask Timely to come up with a specific blend based on the oils you have. Thymely Lite inside of the app can suggest substitutions, but doesn't have that critical thinking. Timely Premium can create a muscle relaxing blend from the oils rich in the antispasmodic properties on your shelf, which is pretty cool if you're looking to get a lot more from the oils you have on hand.
Now Sandra has a really good recipe as well that has helped a lot of people for— with jumpy legs. So jumpy legs, it's a little bit different than the actual muscle cramp, but they're kind of related, and the same oils will help work with both of them. And when I post Karen's recipe inside of the Natural Living Club, I'll make sure to word it in a way that I would love for you to weigh in on what works for your restless legs or your jumpy legs as well. Then we can learn even more from each other.
There we go. Alright, so this is another blend that we were talking about in Lesson 3. This is the Grounded Release Inhaler. We're not gonna make it, but I wanted to just show you that you can work with oils we've been talking about in other lessons bring those in to get even a more grounded release experience. So you can work with 6 drops of our Bergamot Mint in our lesson now, 5 drops of our Palo Santo from our De-Limining lesson, and 4 drops of our Ho Wood, and this is from our Lesson 1.
And so we, we're intentionally putting together recipes where the chemical components can really layer in the ester releases, the d-limonene lifts, and the linalool really steadies. So this is where you're able to get really intentional with your inhaler work when you're making an inhaler for someone who's really looking for that grounded release. Absolutely. And Devin, can you check and make sure that that 5 mL of clary sage is getting— oh, into the— is there an issue with that?
Well, some people are saying that their 5 mL of clary sage isn't being added to their cart. Is there something special they need to do? Oh, well, there you go. We'll check with Megan. Megan does all things behind the scenes when it relates to free gifts. She'll, so we'll just send her a little message and make sure we're all good to go on that. Thank you for that. We'll wait another 3 minutes and then we'll, then we'll check that butter again. Yes. See if it's ready for us to blend. Okay. But that, let's go back to that recipe because the bergamot mint the palo santo.
Palo Santo, the reason why I love this blend and palo santo is it is probably the number one oil for anxiety. Yeah, palo santo and anxiety are fabulous combinations. With that bergamot mint and the Ho Wood, you're really bringing that energy down so that those anxiety feelings, which are so terrible. Yes. They're not fun to deal with. No, they're not. That they just, they just kind of melt away.
Yep. It's, and again, I, I also think it's how the distillers, specifically this distiller in Ecuador, just really waits for the branches to fall from the tree before asking that plant material to go into the distillation and into the blend. It's a very reverent, very respectful process. And I do think that comes through in the distillation, the energy of that intention. There's no science to back that, but that's just, that's where the heart and the art of aromatherapy comes in.
Oh, let's bring up the comments. I don't, well, I don't wanna keep, I don't wanna keep saying your computer screen went away. So I know Jenny mentions Thymely Premium and that is through the Thriving Aromatherapist membership program. Mm-hmm. And that's where you'll find it if you're in that program. And if you're not, we are secretly welcoming in members on the yearly subscription. If you would like to, just email team@aromahead.com and Mina will sneak you in. We usually only open the Thriving Aromatherapist membership community a couple of times a year, but we've been talking about it so much, it's kind of unfair to be talking about it so much.
We have a presentation tomorrow, um, that Karen's going to lead. It's a wonderful workshop. They're usually $129 in terms of value for those workshops, but they're free for our Thrive members, and we're going to have a lot of fun. So we're talking about it, so we want to make sure if you want in on that, you're able to have access. And Jenny set this up in a really strategic way so that all the oils in your kit can be substituted in, in that chemical family, for another oil. So if you don't have Palo Santo but you have another essential oil in that chemical family, you can easily substitute that in.
Yes, and it looks like folks are able to see the Clary Sage pop up in their account. Again, the trick to that is to just make sure that the account you use for Natural Living Club or the Natural Living Lab, your email is the same email in your Aromatics account, and that's how our system can connect and just pop it in automatically. That's the workflow there. It may be too that some people, so in order to get it free, you have to buy something else. Oh, right. Right, so if you just add it, maybe it's gonna show a cost. As soon as you add another item. That's a good point.
So if you add the Clary Sage first before adding any other products, it's going to show an amount there. But as you add your products in and you get over that $40, then it shows, it takes that $17 back off. And Michelle is right there on email. You can always email team@aromatics.com even right now, and she'll be able to help you with that. Okay. All right, so how's our butter looking? Someone's like, isn't it time to whip the body butter? Well, we'd love to, we're just waiting for the freezer. I think it is.
I think this is gonna be it. Yes, yes. Well, and Angie, to let you know, we used to have July promos for Thrive. So at the end of our 6-week chemistry series, we're going to look at next steps, and Thrive is one of the next steps. So week 7 of our chemistry series, we're definitely going to be opening I think it's about there. Okay, there we are. Thank you so much, Devin. Look at that, how cool is that? Look at that. I'll go back to the recipe here. It's not brittle hard, it's softly hard.
Yes. We ready to whip it up? Sure, is that a good time? It's a perfect time, why not? So I've got the recipe back on this, on the slide, but also this is a great time to just stay on camera. And Devin's going to turn the volume down so you don't hear the blending as much, but I'm going to tell you a trick to blending. When you blend your body butters up, it's nice and fluffy and beautiful. My trick is I like to let it set for a little bit, and I'll come back because many times that will start to harden again.
I'll come back and I'll add some more carrier oil until it's to the fluffiness that I wanted. And it could be, you know, half of this bottle, that extra that I might put in there, just depending on what consistency and fluffiness that you like. I know, and you know, it's kind of like everyone has their own preference with chocolate chip cookies. Some people like them really flat and crispy, some like them really rich and fluffy. It's the same kind of concept with your body butters. It's your preference on your texture. All right, are we ready? Ready. Okay, I'm gonna stand.
Okay, I can see what I'm doing.
I want to just say, some people like just a cream. This could also be stopped here for a creamy consistency, but I'm going to keep going, which means you could do just a whisk too if you wanted to, if you don't have this particular setup. It would take longer with the whisk. It would take a little longer, much like whipped cream, but all right, here we go.
So here we have some soft peaks happening, like a— this is like a whipped cream. I'm going to go just a tiny bit further.
Whoops, I went a little too far. I went a little too far on that. I went a little too far. So what I'm going to do, because it's so fun, So if this happens to you and you think, oh, it's just a little too much, add some more carrier in. Vicki's wondering if this is on low. You can use any kind of blender you'd like. I put it from low and then I started going up to high, just like you would do whipped cream. Yes, and then over whipped. Okay, here we go.
There you go. And then I scrape the sides, scrape the bottom. And grab a— would you like a stir rod? A second spoon is always very helpful.
And I'm going to just blend it for another— not a minute, but just a little tiny bit. Here we go.
Okay, this is a very nice whipped butter. What I would do is leave it in here now, not put it in a container quite yet. Wait for an hour or so, maybe half an hour to an hour. Come back. Is it still your consistency that you like? Give it another little whip and then put it into your containers. I love it. You mind showing some consistency? Yeah, there we go. Should we— should I tilt it up a little bit like that? And then of course, you'll take it off of your blender as much as possible, and that's a really beautiful, beautiful consistency.
There you go. Okay, can you hand me a paper towel? And I'm just going to set this on the paper towel. Absolutely can. You know what I can do is unplug it and take the whole setup over to stage right. Oh, it's okay. Okay, I think you can keep going. I'm going to stir this just a minute. That sounds good. Just make sure the sides— oh, that's beautiful! I just have to keep showing this to you, it's so gorgeous. I love whipped butters. You use it, just apply it, rub some into the— oh yeah, let's talk about how to use it.
How I like to use it. And someone's wondering if it's too greasy for sheets and how long it would take to absorb. I use a lot of butter. I put some on before I go to bed for sure. I like to this is how it soaks in the best. If you can take a hydrosol— I don't see one, I just didn't do that at all— and you spray, just put a little bit on, rub it around on your arm, and then take a little of your body butter. It doesn't take much. I love how we're all just crawling around today because there's no water in here.
Okay, so we've got the water there. I'm going to use a little bit from out there. And then you add it in and it soaks in quite nicely. And then just go about doing a few things while you're getting ready for bed or in the morning before you get dressed. And I like to put it on immediately after I get out of the shower because your, your skin is damp anyway. So if you put it on right away, it absorbs in nicely and it doesn't stay greasy. I used to think body butters were quite greasy until I started doing this, and then I see, okay, that helps the skin to be able to soak it in.
It's hardly like— it's hardly greasy at all right now. It's pretty good. Yeah. And then just keep rubbing it in a little bit like that. I won't say, you know, I won't say that it doesn't get on my sheets at all. But for me it's, it's worth it to have a little bit of a, of that on my sheets, and I don't really notice it too much. Yeah, and it washes out really well, just warm hot water. You can use tallow for your butter, Vicki. That's a great idea.
Yes, yes, absolutely can use tallow. It makes a beautiful butter. Yep, for sure. All right, well, we want to keep clipping away because we've got 5 minutes, and we've got more things to talk about. Although, as you know, if the conversation goes short, we can keep it going inside of the Natural Living Lab and inside of the Natural Living Club. Um, we're almost there though. We have 5 minutes.
I just want to make sure. Let's review the free gift. There's one slide here that has great content on it. I'll make sure to upload the slides into Lesson 3. Also, when I post about our event today, I'll put all 3 PDFs—your companion, all of the content from Lesson 3 in one PDF, the workbook that goes with it, and the slide PDF document in that post as well. So there's 2 places to find it, and then you can review the slides that we didn't have a chance to get to.
Don't forget, all of you who are ordering right now, there's no minimum. You can get since you're here and you're live with us today only, a pack of 12 glass stir rods free. Do you know what the value is on that, Devin? I can look it up too. So if you are loving these free weekly gifts for live attendees, if you could pop a 4 into the chat so that we know what's resonating so we can keep offering these for you. An $11 value. An $11 value. Fantastic. So you could again place order for $5 and get an $11 value. There's no minimum, although if you do place an order over $40, you'll also get the Clary Sage 5ml.
Now you have have another week, or until next Monday or Tuesday, to get the Clary Sage free 5ml on any order over $40. It's just the pack of 12 glass stir rods that you have another hour to claim. So make sure that you take that link that you see here in the chat. That's how you claim your free gift for being here with us and attending live, of your 12-pack of glass stir rods. Make sure you save that link somewhere special so you can keep shopping after we're done.
You have one more hour to claim that free gift. We want to always give you some time to just think through what you might want to purchase if you would like to. It's always optional, of course. So you have another hour to do that. Okay, fours are coming in. Yes, they are. Oh, good. Lots of substitution ideas would be— there's mango butter would be fantastic. That's a great idea. A little less greasy than the shea. And if you like this recipe, check out our Instagram because we have a few more butter recipes.
That's true. We've got a lot more butter recipes over on our Instagram and our socials on Facebook, Instagram. So go over and check those out. We also, for anyone in the Natural Living Club, we generally try to build out a little mini course, or we have been doing that this summer with an extra recipe PDF and all of that. So feel free to check that out for other body butter ideas. There's a reason why we don't add the hydrosol into our lotion, into our body butter.
Body butters are lipid-based. They don't have a water component in them, which really increases their shelf life, right? They can last for months on it. If I were to add some water right into my lotion, suddenly I've created a product work that doesn't last very long. Yes, because it doesn't have a preservative in it. So if you're blending for yourself, of course you can make a small amount of a lotion that has a water product in it, thinking that you're planning on using it up in a week or two.
Or you just make the body butter as we have it, and you don't have to worry about the shelf life, right? And that's why we love making everything in small batches, because it is important that we don't want molds growing in our water-based products. And in this, there is no water. In this, hydrosol is considered a water— aloe is considered a water-based product, water of course. But when you're working with the ingredients we just did, the Whipped Body Butter, that's a different story, right? The shelf life of a blend is the shortest shelf life of the ingredient in that blend.
So this has a robust shelf life, and I imagine that it would be, just off the top of my head, maybe petitgrain would be the shortest—we would have to ask Thymely or figure it out. Well, we have bergamot mint, lavender, and petitgrain. They're all about the same. They're all about the same. There you go. And it's because they're in a similar family, and it would depend on when it was distilled, right? Right. So maybe lavender was distilled 3 years before petitgrain, then lavender is the shortest shelf life. I just had a really good reminder.
I made a little extra facial cleanser, which is my aloe and argan oil. I wanted a little bit more, last a little bit longer, and a little mold appeared on the top of that. So I just threw the whole thing away, and I was like, that's such a good reminder to make smaller batches. They're fresher because you just don't want to risk any of that mold in there. Gel freshies— I had one in my window and that thing didn't mold. It took about 3 weeks, but then it started to mold. We made gel freshies maybe 3 months ago. Devin, who's running everything over here, um, put one in his window and it took about 3 months, 2 months, 3 weeks, and it molded.
So again, that— and that's the beauty, right? When have a fresh loaf of bread, you want that. You don't want it packed with preservatives. When you have a fresh whipped body butter or a fresh facial cleanser, you want that, right? You just want to be really aware and cognizant and keep track so that you aren't having any of those spores growing. That's right. Yes. And again, if you don't have a way to heat this up and you don't want to use the microwave, I have a little tea warmer that we typically use, and that will I don't see it right off the bat.
It's around. But it works really well, and we usually use it in our live events here, but today I wanted to show you, we wanted to show you how to use the water bath method. Denise, great question, and thank you for that. There is a link to the full kit over at Aromatics International that Devin can pop in. I'll also include it in the kind of wrap-up post that I'll put in today. But you can get the complete kit, and if you get everything in the kit, it's 30% off. Kit. So then you're able to make every single recipe from every single lesson multiple times because there's plenty of oil and product to make the recipes again and again and again.
So it's not just you have everything to make each recipe once, it's the gift that keeps on giving. You're able to play around and have fun with the ingredients in that recommended supply kit. Do we have time for just another question? One more question and then I want to go over the, uh, homework giveaway post for Lesson 4, which is going to be a really fun thing. Okay, so vitamin E oil can be added to your lipid carriers. It's not a preservative, but it does help extend the shelf life of lipids or oily carriers and keeps them from going rancid.
Just like, think of olive oil. Olive oil has a specific shelf life, and then you start noticing that the smell is changing. Well, that means it's gone rancid. The same thing can happen to any of your carrier oils. So adding vitamin E will somewhat extend the shelf life. It's also a great— vitamin E is very nice on your skin. Not everybody can use vitamin E. Yes. But if you can, that is a great addition as well. Yeah, I usually use them up so fast. I use them up within 2 or 3 months that I typically don't put vitamin E in mine.
Yeah, I like it. All right, let's head back over to slides. So our homework for Lesson 3, which we've been doing for each lesson, is to make one blend containing linalyl acetate. It can be one of the blends that we put together for you in Lesson 3. It can be exactly the full blend, or you can work with Thymely Premium or your own mind and heart and soul, and you can create your own blend containing linalyl acetate. So we'll choose, Thymely, we'll randomly choose 3 winners before we go live, and I'll pop the slide in again just like we did today.
To win, and here's your prize, Karen did a workshop, Essential Oils for Respiratory Wellness. Since we are heading into meeting 1,8-cineole, we'll be talking about 1,8-cineole in this workshop. So 3 people will win this workshop, and it's either a $99 workshop or $129 workshop. It's a great, it's a wonderful workshop to just purchase on its own and go through. But 3 folks will win this workshop. We'll put into their accounts next week before we go live, or we'll select— Thymely will select the winners for us.
You'll love it. I know you will love it. We're not going to have a chance to get into this, but there is a slide on the differences between bergamot mint and bergamot, and there are Very nice. So that's in your slide deck as well. Alright, well we're 4 minutes past, so you have 56 minutes to use that link to place an order and get your free glass stir rods. There's no minimum for that. And again, if you're a Natural Living Club member, Natural Living Lab member, you can place an order over $40 and get a free 5ml clary sage, which is pretty cool.
And if you have problems, just email team@aromatics.com. Yes. All right everyone, thank you so much. If you are in the Thriving Aromatherapist community, we'll see you tomorrow for Karen's workshop on ThriveEO.com is where you go to check that out. And I think we've done it. We've done it. All right, enjoy your recipes, enjoy your content. Feel free to ask any questions in the community and have fun blending your Lesson 3 linalyl acetate-rich blends. Bye for now.
