Today, we are diving into Wednesday's Torah portion, from the fourth portion of Azos Habroca, chapter 33. Here, Moses bestows blessings upon the twelve tribes, including Zvulan and Omar, and the tribe of Zvun. This act symbolizes the enduring alliance between those who immerse themselves in the study of Torah and those who lend them their support.
We also touch on the 19th Amim harikro, a call to the people of the mountain, an invitation to drink from the abundance of the seas. Our trusted scholar, Rashi, gives us a remarkable interpretation, suggesting this passage anticipates a shift of the twelve tribes' nation-states to Israel in times of leap years and leap months.
Next, we explore an anecdote involving a Japanese businessman and his Jewish associate. In this story, the businessman curiously asks about the activities of his associate. The response? They are venerating the Holy Ark, then taking out the Torah and placing it on the bema. This narrative highlights the often overlooked fundraising aspect of our faith.
Finally, we delve into a historical event that occurred before the Six Day War. The Rebbe inaugurated a public campaign to encourage Jews worldwide to put on film. This act, he believed, would instill fear in the hearts of those who oppose Jews. Today, we see the relevance of this message as Gaza has unfortunately become a terror base.
Remember, each of us has a role to play in furthering the understanding, practice, and celebration of our faith.
