I wanna again welcome you to the 4:05 Coffee Break. Guys, the weekend's coming. Get you a cup of coffee, glass of iced tea, bottle of water. Let's see what's happening. Little bit warm out there.
OK Solberg:Spring wheat, $5.67 a bushel. 550 pound steer calf, I've been waiting to say this, $4 even. $4 a pound. A butcher hog in Iowa, 57ยข a pound, and a 100 pound fat lamb in Billings is worth $2.16 a pound. But guys, there's more, much more.
OK Solberg:Okay. Okay. Here's the deal. I spent so much time in the past, I'm gonna mix it up a little today. What I will be sharing with you today is some current news at last.
OK Solberg:The very last Phillips County newspaper that we have dated 07/23/2025. Wow. That's only two days past. And, of course, you know my tricks. I bet you think I'm gonna go right to the fifty years ago and take some time to look at what was happening in the year I graduated high school.
OK Solberg:But I'm gonna fool you. I'm gonna look at the current things from the current PCN just so you know for certain that I don't always live in the past. But first, the bible verse. Ecclesiastes seven ten, say not, why were the former days better than these? For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.
OK Solberg:Okay. Message heard. I will focus on new news. Front page. Look at the picture of the newly constructed Phillips County Grandstand.
OK Solberg:Let's read and see what it says. And I quote, whether you moms, dads, four h leaders, or kid or kids are ready or not, the countdown for the hundred and tenth Phillips County Fair is fast approaching. When this issue comes out on July 23, there's only one week left before it's showtime. There are some changes at the fair this year, and the PCN wanted to share some of them with you. One big change is the addition of the new grandstand.
OK Solberg:This state of the art PISA architecture is probably the newest grandstand in Montana. The article continues, this update was a result of a loss of the original grandstand that was totaled after a severe windstorm in April of 2023. Later in the article, it states, be sure to get your tickets for the concert on Friday evening, end of quote. Yes. I second that motion.
OK Solberg:Get your tickets and enjoy the Phillips County Fair and the brand new grandstand along with fantastic music. Hey, I also see in the current newspaper that the junior dragster class got together for a photo last Saturday at the Highline Drag Strip. Wow. Can you imagine if they had a junior dragster class back when Orvin was driving his 1970 Buick GS with a four fifty five stage one? Hey, I see the Malta swim team competed in the last swim meet of the year in Fort Benton, congratulations to all the swimmers.
OK Solberg:I see Avery Swartz was the athlete of the week and Avery is 10 years old and part of the Malta martial arts team. Well look here, I see that the Montana Stock Growers Association announces a partnership with High Country Beef Jerky. And an added bonus is that all members get 30% off of their purchases of High Country Jerky. That is a good deal. If there's one thing I love more than scalded catfish, it's beef jerky.
OK Solberg:But hold the phone and stop the press. Another front page article is about the new pastor to the Malta Community Church. A big welcome to Shuart and his wife and daughter. And if you have difficulty saying his name, I'm here to say he answers also to the name Shu quite handily. I know Shue personally and he is a very fine man.
OK Solberg:I also see Cassie Griffin painted a mural across from the post office, thanks Cassie. And I also see Malta VFW 04/4067 earns an award. Our VFW post earned this elite award demonstrating to others how important membership is to the continued success of the veterans of foreign wars of The US. And guys, I just had to take a peek at the fifty years ago archive and lo and behold, in July of 1975, we find that the high points winner at the Boots and Saddles Day were Daryl Bergdahl and Sandra Olsen. Hey, can you still climb into that saddle, Sandy?
OK Solberg:The weekend is near. Let's shout out with cheer. The work week is fading. The fun's drawing near. The coffee can rest, the emails can wait, adventure and laughter.
OK Solberg:Now open the gate, so dust off your sneakers or cozy up tight, whatever you fancy, the mood's feeling right, No bosses, no meetings, just joy we revere. Oh, how we adore when the weekend is near. So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
