What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.”
2 Peter 1:5-7 NASB2020

Today we focus on the last part of verse 7 self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.”

We continue to see how much scripture there is that guides us in how to be followers of Christ! Peter reminds us so often that this won’t be easy. If we have to persevere because we follow Christ that means there is going to be difficulties because we follow Christ and this world can be a brutal place. But perseverance is a vital part of following our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Why, because as Peter explains, it gives us the opportunity to develop Godliness. Jesus said in His “sermon on the mount”, “Therefore you shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Matthew 5:48 NASB2020
The way we do that is to rely on the Holy Spirit through prayer and the reading of the word of God. This will help us to follow through on the two greatest commandments. Love God with our everything and Love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Peter said this back in his first letter chapter 3, “But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be in dread, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you…
1 Peter 3:14-15 NASB2020
We are blessed to live in a country where our lives are not in danger for following Christ. That is a true blessing. However we cannot become complacent. We are called to share the love of Christ always no matter what. Therefore die to hate and die to sin so we can live as Christ because to die is gain!
Lord thank you for your incredible blessings. Lord help us to love like you through the power of the Holy Spirit so that your Holy Name will always be glorified now and forever! In Jesus Name! Amen…
