Hello, Rockstars, and welcome to this, your very first Walking This Way Challenge. Every fortnight, I'm going set you a little personal challenge. Nothing to worry about. I'm not going to ask you to do a Sarah Cox and run several marathons or climb Everest. Not least, we do not need to trek in the death zone just to know our greatness.
Lise Thorne:These challenges are going to be about achieving small triumphs when it comes to self care, wellness and well-being. And we can do them together. All of us. So here we go. This week's challenge is to do one small bit of purposeful movement every day that challenges you.
Lise Thorne:What I mean by that is, if you walk the dog every day, I want you to do something in addition. It could be add five minutes onto the walk done with purposeful exertion. Maybe you can do ten push ups on your knees if that's what's right for you, or 15 burpees, or maybe just one. Use a chair if you need to. Maybe if you've ever thought about running, you'd just go for a gentle jog around the block.
Lise Thorne:I'd just like it to be something, a small thing, every day that isn't long in time, but that you feel proud that you did. The list is endless. 10 squats and if you already move every day, is there something new that you could give a go? Swimming, if you really want to, it can even be cleaning the windows. I don't know if you have ever tried it, but it's actually really hard work and it feels satisfying at the end.
Lise Thorne:The reason why I think this is so important is because it is the building of these incremental small habits that make us grow. And if it can be something just a little bit hard, the confidence that comes with it will compound. Confidence compounding is the best thing ever, ever, ever for building rock stars. So what do you think? Achievable?
Lise Thorne:Absolutely it is. And I want you to share how you got on with me and the whole Walking This Way community. Please send me your messages, voice messages, photos and videos, and I'll share them here on the show and on my Instagram, so that we can take on the challenges as one. So good luck this week, enjoy it, take it slowly, and don't forget to share how you got on. All the links that you need to do so are in the show notes, and you can always email me at walkingthisway@hotmail.com.
Lise Thorne:See you in a week's time for the main show when I'll be chatting to the irrepressible Vanessa McDade. Love you, rock stars.
