In this episode, we delve into the 12th blessing of the Amida, "V'lamalshinim al tehi tikvah," which prays against informers and heretics. Originally composed by the Anshei Knesset Hagedolah, the Amida was set to contain 18 blessings, but this additional prayer was added centuries later in response to the internal strife and external oppression faced by the Jewish people after the Second Temple's destruction. It was crafted by Shmuel HaKatan, a humble sage known for his spiritual depth. The blessing, while seemingly harsh, serves as a call for vigilance and protection of Jewish identity against those who threaten it. It emphasizes the need to confront evil and uphold Torah values while also recognizing the potential for repentance and redemption in even the most wayward individuals. This prayer remains relevant today, highlighting the ongoing struggle against both internal and external challenges to the Jewish community.
