What is good? Welcome to Episode 14 of the Fight Science made simple podcast. I'm your host coach Adam Snyder. I'm a lifelong martial artist. I'm a performance and recovery coach, and I'm also an active anime fighter [...0.5s] as active as I can be. I haven't fought since February of this year, and it's probably gonna be a year before I get back in the cage, ECL injuries and [...0.5s] staff. But we're gonna get back in very soon. I'm looking forward to it.Last week I recorded episode 13 outside with my boy, David Pantero Macias. And I like recording outside so much, I decided to do it again. Today is gonna be a quick episode, though I have some family over for the holidays, and I wanna make sure that I spend as much time with them as possible before they go home in a couple days. But I also committed to releasing an episode every single Monday for the foreseeable future. And I'm going to stick to that commitment. It's very important to me that as a man, as a human being in general, you [...0.5s] do the things that you say you're going to do.So if you say I'm gonna post, if I, you say I'm gonna make a podcast every single week on Monday, I'm gonna do it every single week on Monday, even if it's gonna be a 15, 20 minute podcast. I'm gonna record something and getting out there to provide as much value to you as possible. So if you're new, welcome to the podcast. I release brand new episodes every single Monday. Like, title of the podcast says, we make fight science simple. We cover strength conditioning, nutrition, recovery, mindset, lifestyle habits for fighters, combat athletes and martial artists.Everything you need off of the map to take your on map performance to the next level. The best thing that you can do if you're digging this podcast, follow the podcast, subscribe to the podcast wherever you're listening to it, and share it.Share with a teammate, a friend, a training partner, anybody that you believe can benefit from this [...0.7s] combat sports, especially MMA.Still very, very young under 40 years [...0.6s] that the sport has been around. And so when it comes to how fighters train, recover, prepare, fuel themselves, there's still a lot of outdated information. So my mission is to bring the sport into the light, have a kind of renaissance when it comes to performance and recovery, and just help as many fighters as possible.I've been training for my entire life since I was 5 years old. Martial arts shaped who I am. I believe everyone should train and everyone should train for as long as possible. And [...0.4s] I just think it makes better human beings. It makes the world a better place. And so if I can help you do that for longer with more success and have more joy in your training process, then I would love to do that as much as possible. So that's why these episodes are here. This episode, um you know, I was thinking about, what do I wanna post today? Cause I don't have a ton of time to record a podcast. What do I wanna talk about? I can't really break down a sport science or nutrition topic in the detail that I would want to break a topic down. And as I was thinking about it, you know, today, like I said, I have family over, and today has been [...0.6s] a busy day. We have client programming, client check ins.I personally message every single person that we're talking to on Instagram, and I took about a week off for the holidays, so I had a week's worth of DMs, like over 200 conversations to catch up on, um, posting content.Today is the first day of posting three pieces of content a week. My goal for 2026 is to post three times a day, every single day, and just blow up Fight Science Collective to reach as many fighters and martial arts as possible. So we've been on the fucking go today, and recording this episode is the last thing that is on my agenda today before I just focus and lock in with my family. And so when I was thinking about what do I wanna talk about today, the topic of consistency was something that really stood out and resonated for me in filming this episode.Because to be honest, I, I didn't wanna record the podcast today. It would have been really easy just to say, you know what? I don't have time, my family is over.Today's a really busy day. We're just getting back up for the holidays. I'll record episode tomorrow or I'll record episode on Wednesday. And I'll still get my weekly podcast in. But like I said, [...0.5s] it's important to, for me at least to do the things that I say I'm gonna do. So if I'm gonna do something on a Monday, I'm going to do it on a Monday. And [...0.8s] it ties a little bit to consistency because, [...1.2s] you know, consistency, I think a lot of people think about consistency is showing up at 100% every single day, and giving it your all every single day, and feeling motivated all the time, and feeling great and high energy, and just stoked to be getting after it consistently. And [...0.4s] the reality is, is [...0.5s] that just isn't what consistency looks like. And I think [...1.0s] a lot of people fall off track on their goals, whether it's being a better fighter, getting in better shape, building a business, building relationships, whatever it is that you're trying to do.Because inevitably, if you are doing something that's worth achieving, it's going to be hard, it's going to be challenging, you're not going to want to do it.That's just the reality. Like you're not gonna wanna do it most days. I, I don't wanna create content, I don't want to be writing programs, I don't want to be training, I don't want to be doing these really hard things that are taking away from [...1.7s] more relaxing things.Right. But [...0.5s] at the end of the day, [...0.5s] there are a couple things that drive you through, right? Even though you don't wanna do the hard things, there's a love for it that keeps you showing up.Like, even though I don't wanna, didn't wanna record this podcast episode today, or there are days where I don't wanna create content, or there are days where I don't wanna go to training.I like to look at the, the macro, the long term, and I think about, well, if I wasn't doing this, if I wasn't coaching martial artists and combat athletes and fighters, if I wasn't training, if I wasn't running an online coaching business, what would I be doing? And when I think about that, there's literally nothing else that I would rather be doing on the face of the planet. So [...0.4s] when it comes to days that I don't wanna be doing things, where I'm not feeling motivated, or I'm feeling an urge to not be consistent consistent, I think what else would I be doing?Okay, I wouldn't be doing anything else, so this is the best option for me. I'm going to fucking do it. So that's one thing that keeps me showing up and being consistent. The other thing that keeps me showing up and being consistent is my why. It can be kind of cliche sometimes, like, what's your why? But I think it's really important.Like, the reason you're doing things [...0.6s] is so important. Because if you're just doing it for [...0.5s] a reason that's not resonating with you, or a very material or superficial reason, then when it inevitably gets hard, you're gonna burn out, and you're not gonna wanna do it anymore. Like, for me, I want to create genuine freedom for myself and my family.I wanna be able to do whatever I want, whenever I want. However, I want it without any limitations. I want my family to not ever have to worry about anything ever again. I wanna be financially in time free. So I wanna fucking work my ass off at business.I've been in the martial arts since I was 5 years old. I want to fucking make a name for myself in the martial arts. There's a bit of ego for that 100%. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's not the only thing that's driving me, but Fight Science Collective is going to be a household name in every single martial artists home. It's gonna be, you're gonna see our logo everywhere. Everyone's gonna know about it, and that drives me when I don't wanna do it.Fuck, no. Like, I have a mission to build this thing. I have fighters that need my help. I have athletes that rely on me. I have other people that depend on me. And so [...0.7s] doing something, doing it for a reason that's bigger than myself is another thing that pushes me and keeps me consistent.I think the other thing is having a really deep understanding that no matter what you do in life, there's going to be a level of challenge, there's going to be a level of adversity, and there's going to be a level of suffering. It's like, when I talk to people that have a hard time working out, right, I don't wanna work out because I'm gonna be sore.I'm gonna be in pain. I got news for you, motherfucker. You're gonna be in pain no matter what. Like, you're gonna be in pain if you work out, or you're gonna be in pain if you don't work out. What's great about being a human is that [...0.4s] you have [...0.5s] the choice [...0.9s] of what pain to be in. And to me, like, pain of working out is way better than pain of injury from not working out, [...0.5s] pain and suffering from making sacrifices.Waking up when you don't wanna wake up, doing work that you will wanna do, going and getting beat up when you're sore and when you're, you're tired is way more fulfilling than working a job or being in a career, or being restricted in life and having that level of pain. Because I'm not willing to stay consistent and show up when I want to. And so these are the things that just drive me.These are the things that keep me going forward. Like recording this podcast today, I don't have a ton of time to record it. I did not want to do it. I have to go lift later today. I don't necessarily want to go and do that, but when I look at what my goals are in life, I look at the action that needs to be taken in order to achieve those goals. And then I think about what would be more painful.Taking the action now, [...0.7s] even if I don't want to, even if my emotions don't want me to do that thing, doing it anyway because I know it's going to get me closer to my goals or [...0.4s] giving into the momentary satisfaction of, I can just do it tomorrow, I can record this podcast in a couple days. I don't need to go to the gym today, oh, I can just go light today. I don't need to train today, oh, I don't need to hit my protein goal today. And [...1.0s] giving into that momentary relief [...0.9s] but then have long term suffering, like you have that choice. What would you rather have? Would you have [...0.5s] momentary suffering but long term joy [...0.6s] and relief and success or [...0.6s] momentary gratification a little, don't mean hint, but long term suffering. And so that's really important. So [...0.6s] as we are going into the New Year, as you're going in 2026, how many people are being hit [...0.5s] with bursts of motivation right now? I know I'm feeling I'm feeling the burst of motivation. I haven't been eating great.I've been drinking a little bit. I haven't trained the way that I wanna train. I've been taking some time off to spend time with my family. I can't wait to lock back in and get back after and achieve all of my goals. And I'm sure a lot of you feel that way as well. If you guys feel burst of motivation, you can't wait to lose the weight, win the fight, train more, get the belt, make the money, go pro, get the glory, set your family up for life. You're feeling all this motivation, that's part of the New Year, and that's amazing. Understand that motivation is not an unlimited resource, it's going to dip, [...0.5s] it's going to go away in a couple weeks. This is why so many people fail with their resolutions because it's the same cycle. This is the year I'm gonna do it, this is the year I'm going to make my dreams a reality. And then [...1.0s] the motivation fades, the dopamine fades off, you start falling back into the old patterns of life, and then [...0.9s] it's the same year over and over and over again. So use this motivation to [...0.8s] jump start your year to build consistency and habits, and take action now.But then when the motivation fades, when you don't wanna do it anymore, when it starts to become hard, and it's going to start to become hard, you're going to want to quit, no matter what you're doing. It's going to happen, [...0.6s] have a strong enough why to carry you forward.Remember what you want in this life and how bad you want it, and then just be willing to work hard. Like, like, for me, a core principle in a core value is never giving up.I was taught that from a very young age for my very first martial arts instructor, shout out sensei Michael Marshawn. He raves me since I was five years old.Very first thing that he taught me called non quitting spirit. No matter how hard something gets, no matter what's in your way, you just keep trying. And you just keep showing up and putting the effort over and over and over and over again. No matter what, no matter how hard it gets, no matter [...0.4s] how much you don't wanna do it, you just keep showing up consistently overtime and putting the work in, and eventually you're going to get there. And to me, that's a really, really, really deep instilled principle. I would rather just show up and work consistently and fail over and over and over and over again. And I and die putting in that level of consistency, then quit [...0.8s] and living with the fact of knowing that I did not give everything into my goals and giving into my dreams. Now is everyday perfect. No, [...0.7s] is there gonna be days where you slip off a little bit, or you have more challenging days?Of course, that's normal. We're human beings, we're not perfect, [...0.4s] but consistency is not being at 100% every day. You have really good days, you're gonna have medium days, you're gonna have not so great days, you're gonna have waves of days. But as long as you keep showing up and you're doing something consistently, you have a vision, you're showing up, and you're putting the working, you're believing that you can achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve in this life, then eventually [...0.7s] you're gonna get there. All right, quick episode, kind of a rambly episode. Um, but that's what's on my mind and that's what I want to talk about. So it's a beautiful year, 2026. 2025 has been an amazing year. It's presented a lot of challenges, also presented a lot of success.I'm grateful for everybody that has been engaging in this community, has been a part of fight science from people that listen to this podcast, that follow us on Instagram, that are part of our coaching program.
