(2:46) Mekadesh Shem Shamayim Through Torah Learning

AI-Generated Summary (AI can be inaccurate. Check important information):

1. Healing through honor โ€” The tragedy of the 24,000 talmidim of Rabbi Akiva teaches us that the primary work of Sefiras HaOmer is to rectify the sin of failing to show proper kavod to one another.
2. National unity โ€” Beyond the individual obligation of V'ahavta L'reiacha Kamocha, we must strive for the collective unity of Vayichan Sham Yisrael, becoming a single entity before Hakadosh Baruch Hu.
3. Unified soul โ€” As the Baal HaTanya explains, the Jewish people are neshama achas (one soul) despite being gufin chalukin (separate bodies), a concept hinted at by the use of the singular word nefesh regarding Yaakov Avinu's family.
4. The weight of Chillul Hashem โ€” The prohibition of V'lo Techalelu in the parsha teaches that a Chillul Hashem is not only a disgrace to Heaven but a direct pegam (deficiency) in the entire nation of Israel.
5. Torah as atonement โ€” While a Se'ir Izim is brought as a chatas on other festivals, it is omitted on Shavuos because the intensive study of Torah has the unique power to provide kapparah for even the gravest sins.
6. Giving versus receiving โ€” We refer to the holiday as Zeman Matan Toraseinu (the time of the giving of our Torah) because our goal is not just to receive the Torah for ourselves, but to reach a level where we can give it over to others.

ืฉื‘ืช Shabbos everyone, weโ€™re in the middle of ืกืคื™ืจืช ื”ืขื•ืžืจ Sefiras HaOmer. 24,000 ืชืœืžื™ื“ื™ื Talmidim of Rabbi Akiva passed away because they didnโ€™t live up to their ืจื‘ื™ Rebbe's statement of ื•ืื”ื‘ืช ืœืจืขืš ื›ืžื•ืš V'ahavta L'reiacha Kamocha. They didnโ€™t live up to the concept of treating each other appropriately: ืฉืœื ื ื”ื’ื• ื›ื‘ื•ื“ ื–ื” ื‘ื–ื” Shelo Nahagu Kavod Ze Bazeh. And when we try to understand that and try to appreciate it, weโ€™re left bewildered to figure it out. All we know is that thatโ€™s something we have to work on and thatโ€™s the calling of ืกืคื™ืจืช ื”ืขื•ืžืจ Sefiras HaOmer, that we need to come together. And thatโ€™s not only on an individual level of ื•ืื”ื‘ืช ืœืจืขืš ื›ืžื•ืš V'ahavta L'reiacha Kamocha, but ultimately as well on a national level, because the goal is to come to ื•ื™ื—ืŸ ืฉื ื™ืฉืจืืœ ื ื’ื“ ื”ื”ืจ Vayichan Sham Yisrael Neged Ha'har, because the ultimate idea is to become one before ื”ืงื“ื•ืฉ ื‘ืจื•ืš ื”ื•ื Hakadosh Baruch Hu. Like the ื‘ืขืœ ื”ืชื ื™ื Baal HaTanya points out in ืคืจืง ืœ\"ื‘ Perek Lamed Beis, weโ€™re ื ืฉืžื” ืื—ืช, ื’ื•ืคื™ืŸ ืžื—ื•ืœืงื™ื Neshama Achas, Gufin Chulukin. Weโ€™re one soul, just separate in different bodies. Even the ืคืกื•ืงื™ื Psukim by ื™ืขืงื‘ ืื‘ื™ื ื• Yaakov Avinu says, talks about ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ื ืคืฉ Shivim Nefesh, talks about the 70 people that ื™ื•ืฆืื™ ื™ืจืš ื™ืขืงื‘ Yotzei Yerech Yaakov. But what does it say? ืœืฉื•ืŸ Lashon of ื ืคืฉ Nefesh, one. Because the ultimate, when youโ€™re serving ื”ืงื“ื•ืฉ ื‘ืจื•ืš ื”ื•ื Hakadosh Baruch Hu and everyoneโ€™s serving ื”ืงื“ื•ืฉ ื‘ืจื•ืš ื”ื•ื Hakadosh Baruch Hu, youโ€™re considered one. Unlike by ืขืฉื™ื• Esav, when it says ื•ื™ืงื— ืขืฉื™ื• ืืช ื›ืœ ื ืคืฉื•ืช ื‘ื™ืชื• Vayikach Esav Es Kol Nafshos Beiso, ื ืคืฉื•ืช Nafshos, multiple, because when youโ€™re worshipping other gods, youโ€™re not together. ืกืคื™ืจืช ื”ืขื•ืžืจ Sefiras HaOmer is about building ourselves, itโ€™s about improving ourselves, but itโ€™s not enough to improve ourselves; we have to improve ourselves as a nation and bring ourselves closer and closer and closer together. How do we do that? Well maybe one way we can is to appreciate something the ืคืกื•ืง Pasuk in this week's ืคืจืฉื” Parsha tells us. The ืคืกื•ืง Pasuk in this week's ืคืจืฉื” Parsha says ื•ืœื ืชื—ืœืœื• ืืช ืฉื ืงื“ืฉื™ V'lo Sechalelu Es Shem Kodshi. Talks about ื—ื™ืœื•ืœ ื”ืฉื Chillul Hashem. ื—ื™ืœื•ืœ ื”ืฉื Chillul Hashem, we feel, we think itโ€™s only being ืžื—ืœืœ ืฉื ืฉืžื™ื Mechalel Shem Shamayim, itโ€™s only bringing a disgrace to ื”ืงื“ื•ืฉ ื‘ืจื•ืš ื”ื•ื Hakadosh Baruch Hu. But itโ€™s wrong. A ื—ื™ืœื•ืœ ื”ืฉื Chillul Hashem is ืคื•ื’ืข ื‘ืขื ื™ืฉืจืืœ Pogea B'am Yisrael. Itโ€™s ืคื•ื’ืข Pogea with, in us. Itโ€™s a ืคื’ื Pegam, itโ€™s a deficiency. And what we need to do is not only prevent ourselves, but we have to do the opposite and be ืžืงื“ืฉ ืฉื ืฉืžื™ื Mekadesh Shem Shamayim. The best way of trying to do that may be the idea, you know we always, in every single one of the ืžื•ืขื“ื™ื Moadim it says ืฉืขื™ืจ ืขื–ื™ื ืœื—ื˜ืืช Se'ir Izim L'Chatas. We bring a ืฉืขื™ืจ ืขื–ื™ื Se'ir Izim for a ื—ื˜ืืช Chatas. The only one we donโ€™t is by ืฉื‘ื•ืขื•ืช Shavuos. Why is that? Because ืฉื‘ื•ืขื•ืช Shavuos we learn ืชื•ืจื” Torah. And if thereโ€™s anything that can be ืžื›ืคืจ Mechafer for ื—ื™ืœื•ืœ ื”ืฉื Chillul Hashem, itโ€™s learning ืชื•ืจื” Torah appropriately. Itโ€™s learning ืชื•ืจื” Torah the way we need to be learning ืชื•ืจื” Torah. During ืกืคื™ืจืช ื”ืขื•ืžืจ Sefiras HaOmer we have to come together. We have to ensure that this is not going to be a ื—ื™ืœื•ืœ ื”ืฉื Chillul Hashem. And unfortunately, unfortunately in these days there are so many opportunities that people take, I don't want to say advantage of, but to make a ื—ื™ืœื•ืœ ื”ืฉื Chillul Hashem. We have to be ืžืงื“ืฉ ืฉื ืฉืžื™ื Mekadesh Shem Shamayim. We have to bring the biggest ืงื™ื“ื•ืฉ ืฉื ืฉืžื™ื Kiddush Shem Shamayim. But when we do that, we can do it through learning ืชื•ืจื” Torah, showing respect to one another, but certainly continuing and be ืžื—ื–ืง Mechazek ourselves in learning ืชื•ืจื” Torah, so ultimately we get to ืฉื‘ื•ืขื•ืช Shavuos, we can celebrate, we can celebrate the ืงื‘ืœืช ื”ืชื•ืจื” Kabbalas HaTorah. Because truthfully, isn't it interesting, we say it's ื–ืžืŸ ืžืชืŸ ืชื•ืจืชื ื• Zeman Matan Toraseinu, we don't say it's ื–ืžืŸ ืงื‘ืœืช ืชื•ืจืชื ื• Zeman Kabbalas Toraseinu. Why? Because it's not only about receiving, it's about giving. And you can only give once you've learned. ื‘ืขื–ืจืช ื”ืฉื Be'ezras Hashem we should be ื–ื•ื›ื” Zoche to continue to appreciate ืขื ื™ืฉืจืืœ Am Yisrael, to appreciate each other, to appreciate the ื’ื“ืœื•ืช Gadlus of ืขื ื™ืฉืจืืœ Am Yisrael, to appreciate that concept of being one ื ืคืฉ Nefesh, and ultimately with that we should be ื–ื•ื›ื” Zoche to a true ืงื‘ืœืช ื”ืชื•ืจื” Kabbalas HaTorah, which will allow us to continue giving the ืชื•ืจื” Torah to everyone else around us and continuing being ืžืงื“ืฉ ืฉื ืฉืžื™ื Mekadesh Shem Shamayim. Have a beautiful ืฉื‘ืช Shabbos.
